Absolutely, and I’ve been one of the biggest advocates of "teams" over individuals for years.
I’ve regularly argued that structure, balance and leadership (our captains!!) matter more than any single player, and that players like Bennett and Saiss were more valuable to us than the sum of their individual parts, despite the regular cries for their replacement.
But that doesn’t mean those players now wouldn’t get into other sides. They absolutely would.
We are similar now to Taylor or McGhee’s Championship sides, players who were individually better than many they faced, but never functioned as a proper team and would be outfought and outthought.
So yes, the glue matters. But having glue doesn’t suddenly make the pieces better plastic, and lacking it doesn’t mean the pieces themselves are entirely useless.
