Rob Edwards - the prodigal son returns

Nuno is going to get the tin tack in the next 48 hours.

Sorry Rob and I know we've played quite well in the last three games, and you're a nice bloke it seems, but if Half Pint was the only obstacle to Nuno coming back and now he's thankfully done one, enjoy your payoff.
Maybe he can give Ruben a bell and a few others and we can get the band back together.

He's done no better job at West Ham than Edwards has and if you are objective about it managing a team to lose 3-0 to our lot is disgraceful

It won't happen because there will be an appetite within the club to prove how clever they are by appointing Edwards, not because anyone on this planet thinks Edwards is a better manager than Nuno. What Nuno does at WHU has no bearing on his abilities as a manager, he's already proven himself 100 times over.

If RPS sticks around I'm much less worried about the current set up for next season, he's clearly had a massive impact already.

If they can make a start on addressing the squad in Jan that would be even better. Even if it's 4/5 of these tossers out for decent money and 2/3 players who you can clearly see would be reasonable options for next season then that's a start.

* This is all dependent on Edwards actually doing the bare minimum to keep his job with what's left of this season btw. I'll repeat that we can't just accept shite until May just because we're already down. If it looks at any point like we're likely to finish on something like 15 points then he should absolutely get the sack, regardless of how clever Jackson and co think they are.

Never mind RPS, Wolves Assistant Manager Harry Watling with his new SmartTact 2-in-1 electric tactic board, ready for tomorrow’s game against Everton

Times change. That’s not to say Edwards is better than Nuno today, but we did just beat the shit out of his side. Quite badly.

Love the guy to death but what we saw on the 3rd was beyond just West Ham’s squad being poor.

Lycan is right about it never happening. But objectively you’d appoint him and his team immediately if you could and support them in the market if you wanted the best for Wolves. It’s not a remotely close consideration. Beggars belief to think otherwise.

That’s a lot of qualifiers!

I should be clear, I’d still have Nuno back in a heartbeat. I’m just not as assured that he still “has it” like he did when he was here. Whether luck or a brief period of competence, we stumbled into almost the perfect squad for him.

That aside, whether or not he’s the manager he once was doesn’t change his legacy here. Give the man a statue tbqfh

We're less than 12 months removed of him replicating what he did here in 18/19 with more points and a worse squad at Forest.

Sorry, poorly worded. My own qualifier is if he were available. And he will be very soon. So appoint him.

We won’t though. Because the people making decisions have their own interests at heart. Not those of the club.

On a podcast Rui did with Wolves a while ago (while Nuno was in Saudi) he basically said he couldn’t do the championship again as it drained the life out of him and the rest of the staff. To the point that if we hadn’t gone up that year he thinks they would have left.

That said, he took this job knowing our fate. Could easily have been a short term deal though.

Grateful to Nuno for past glories, but wouldn`t take him back now. His track record since leaving hasn`t been great, Forest aside. Sometimes a Manager just clicks with a team, probably like Edwards did with Middlesborough to a degree. I think he would seriously struggle to get us out of this mess we are in.

I think that Nuno needs a spell out of the front line. I wonder if he’d make a good Director of Football?

I’d love to see him take that role at Wolves.

Couldn't understand why Nuno went straight from Forest to West Ham . He needed a rest , a recharge .
Nuno going to West Ham is like Frank going to Spurs - will they ever get accepted ?

Nuno is clearly better with his full back room team behind him .

Let Edwards finish out the season and see where we are then .

Guess it’s a holding position until Nuno gets the band back together somewhere?

Feels like we’ve got low budget Man Utd issues [not to say Amorim should t have gone - clearly he’s been sht and deserved it. Two things can be true etc]. There’s a new circuit of jumped up executives who want to run the football show, without any of the downside of being accountable for results. These guys don’t want competent football men given the autonomy and ownership needed for success, they want patsies in place to make them look smart (as Lycan says) and then be a convenient, probably deserving, throat to choke as they were no good in the first place. We didn’t have that with Nuno, but that turns out to have been blind luck. And we won’t appoint it again as it’s turkeys voting for Christmas for the likes of Jacko and Hobbsy.

The exec structure in a football club should be there to support and guide the talent - the top talent being the manager. It should be wise enough to give that role ownership and subsequent recognition, and modest and humble enough to stick to what it does best, which is boring governance. Don’t want that? Don’t do that job then. You can’t have your cake and eat it.

Though it seems you can.

Doesn't he know that 'Championship' is just a technical word?

"Forest aside"?

There's no doubt Nuno, given the right backing would have us at least competetive in the Championship and eventually bring us back up. I dont think time is right currently.
