Relegation Thread 2023/24

I think most of the anger at Bournemouth is directed at their recruitment rather than the manager at the moment although that should change if their form continues

They have to win at least two of the next five or he's gone surely.

Burnley (H)
Man City (A)
Newcastle (H)
Sheff Utd (A)
Aston Villa (H)

I think he's gone either way, wouldn't surprise me if it happened any day now. Their owners don't seem particularly sensible, as good of a fit as he seemed to be at the time they appointed him there's no way they let the start he's had slide.

Still amazes me that nobody knows what the actual punishments from breaching FFP are. How is this not codified somewhere???
Do y and x happens.

Instead we're wondering oh maybe they'll have a points deduction, maybe a fine, maybe they'll all have to dress like Cilla and hawk Beatles t-shirts at the Albert Dock

It’s all a bit of a farce. PL are scared to issue a punishment but then scared not to because of the backlash from other clubs but also the risk that other clubs will just ignore it moving forward if the punishment is weak.

They are likely going to bottle it again and hope the league table makes the decision for them. Either Everton get relegated on merit making a points deduction easy or get enough of a cushion so that a points deduction keeps them safe.

Unsure how it’s taken them over 2 seasons to come to a conclusion.

Reverse on the highway and you get 2 demerits. Imagine if they worked it out on a case by case basis???

Anyways, 20 more points from 29 games is a stupidly easy return to stay in the league. GON next season it is chaps.
Too early to say on Gazball but if we went 4231 we could field very tidy side without breaking Fosun.

Sa
Semedo Dawson Toti RAN
Lemina Gomes
Bellegarde Cunha Neto
Kalajdzic

Not much surgery needed there. CBs basically.

Semedo will leave in the summer. Last year of his contract and he's on a massive wage so little chance of an extension.

He's got another year left, the option we triggered was 2 years

I meant at the end of this season he'll have 1 year left. This will be his last season here though as we'll try to sell him in the summer and recoup some value.

As you say, can see him leaving just because it’ll be another huge wage gone.

At this point do we need both Lemina and Gomes, other than against the top sides?

Doyle is a good creative option to have through the middle. And we need all the best playmakers on the pitch we can.

We actually should be above Chelsea come mid-December. Level on points as it stands and their next games are:

Tottenham (A)
Man City (H)
Newcastle (A)
Brighton (H)
Man Utd (A)

Our relegation odds have drifted quite a lot over recent weeks

Just using Bet365's current prices:

Sheff Utd 1/8
Luton 1/4
Burnley 11/8
Everton 7/4
Bournemouth 7/4
Nottm Forest 6/1
Fulham 8/1
Wolves 12/1
Crystal Palace 20/1
Brentford 33/1

Chelsea are 125/1, now of course they shouldn't go down but realistically they're not much if any better than a few teams on that list as it stands. If they did lose all their next five (possible if unlikely) then they'd have to be in the conversation, running at under 1PPG and having been dreadful for over an entire year.

You could potentially make some easy money by backing them now to go down on Betfair then laying them in a month or so when they've slipped even lower in the table and the price has come in (which it would have to). Though of course you don't get to pick up your winnings until May.
