Relegation Thread 2023/24

Everton are utterly broke and bought Beto on the never never. If the yanks take over that will only get worse as they are asset stripping cunts.

All good points. As I said above, to be where we are now after the summer mess is pretty impressive. The general mood from people I’ve spoken to inside the club is that it was dire straits about 3-4 months ago too: unhappy players, manager who wanted out and didn’t particularly make it a secret.

It could well be that new additions to the coaching staff have made a difference, and it could still go very south obviously, but I think O’Neil does deserve a fair amount of credit for how he has instilled a bit of belief in the players and given them freedom and discipline in equal measure. I certainly didn’t expect Neto/Cunha/Hwang to turn into the second coming of Sako/Afobe/Dicko.

The amount of people of heard quoting Everton’s XG and how they’ll move away from trouble. Firstly the XG is so high because they’ve had numerous fixtures they would expect to get something from.
Goes again straight back to, people assuming Everton will be fine because it’s Everton.
Plus Sean Dyche has been portrayed as the new fire fighter coach which he’s not. Burnley last relegation was very much down to him.

Points deduction aside, I think Everton will be OK, mainly because of the lack of quality in the bottom 4 than anything they'll really do themselves. I know we are only a quarter of the way through the season and it won't finish this low, but at the moment the team 3rd from bottom are on to get 17 points. I don't think anyone is going down with 30 this year. You don't look at one of them and think they are underperforming with their squad in the way you could Wolves and Leicester this time last year for example

Dyche sets up not to lose, rather than to win. If Everton go behind, which is a regular occurrence he hasn’t a scooby what to do in order to turn a game around.

Their only way to pick up points against anything other than the absolute rubbish is full on dogs of war and kick players into the next postcode. And they have had four home games they would have expected to win and harvested 1 point.

Their upcoming fixtures all the way to Christmas are ugly. Right in the mix.

And that assumes they don’t get a points deduction. Either for FFP or admin if the sale goes south. They have borrowed £65m just to keep the lights on.

As some have said on here a lot of problems will kick in next season as the sides coming up will be a vast improvement on the ones hovering down there.
I mean Luton have got a genuine chance of staying just because how bad the other 4 are down there. Whoever survives will have serious concerns next season as will we if we don’t improve.
The current top 5 in the championship contain the 3 relegated last season. I expect 2 to come up, still not sure how Ipswich will react if they hit a sticky patch.

You'd think having DCL and Onana alone would keep Everton relatively safe.

Calls for him to go have appeared on up the cherries but it is hardly the “masses” 😂 with pitchforks and torches.

Quite surprised at how chilled some Bournemouth fans are regarding their manager. We would all be scrambling to be the angriest person alive if GO had his record for us.
I'd get it if they were playing well (like Lage got away with 0 goals and 0 points early on, not that we were anything like as good as people made out) but they aren't. They were appalling against Everton and as bad against us.

Their shape was so ineffective and yet clearly drilled that it’s made me extremely curious how Iraola’s Bilbao sides actually played. I was always under the impression that he did well there, but it’s hard for me to imagine the tactics he’s employing being effective in any high level league.

I get every La Liga game here but I can’t remember watching Bilbao last season. Bar the obvious 2 I mainly watched Betis, Girona, Sevilla and Valencia games.

He was at Rayo, not Bilbao

I don't watch La Liga any more since it left Sky. The reports I read were that it was Klopp at Dortmund style high pressure, front foot football.

Bournemouth don't look anything like that.

Bournemouth tried to nab him last year but he refused to join during the season.
He takes the job then and GO is left with just having a caretakers role on his CV and nowhere near our radar to replace Lopetegui

I tended to spend Monday and Tuesday watching all the full premier league games while Ed’s kids were at school and fit in the odd la Liga game where I could. What I remember was Girona were a decent watch.

He came with quite a big reputation I think so I reckon that is probably buying him some time, we’d be the same had Lopetegui arrived this season and not O’Neil.
