Other than Dawson and a few other cheap punts I don't think we've made a signing that you'd call an unqualified success since Pedro Neto*, and obviously with his injuries it's difficult to say what sort of player he'll be next season. Podence I guess you could say given we'll presumably get close to our money back and he's at least scored a few goals, even if he is a horrid little scrote.

*A signing that I'm sure you'll remember I was 110% in favour of
Sa is probably a success even if he does drive me up the bloody wall.

We'll get way more than we paid if we sell him this summer (please do).

I was going to offer Sa but he really is bollock drop central this season

That seems about right - though our business in the last window seemed much better (with Cunha very much TBC)

Genuine question, it's shit but wouldn't most PL clubs have a similar list of shame?

Is it just par for the course to some extent...having plenty of misses as well as the odd hit (don't think we've had much of the latter for a few years)?
If you park Cunha for a moment as he hasn't officially signed then our Top 5 transfers are Nunes, Silva, Jimenez, Guedes and Semedo. Thus far we've got value from 1. It's not a good strike rate

Yeah I was probably being uncharitable with Sa, but I'm a grumpy old mon so he's staying off the list for dramatic effect

To be fair I think it’s an arguable point. He isn’t exactly Zoff and does some things that are epically dense

I'm struggling to think of any player bar Raul who we've bought for big money who is a success.

All of our best purchases have been sub £20m

My original point still stands, those purchases have been a horrendous waste of money.

That's just inflation though isn't it, Jonny at £18m nearly five years ago was huge money for a pretty unheralded full back (and over the whole course of his time here, has obviously been a success even if time is up now).

I wouldn't have thought his price would've doubled.

But we did loan him first, you could already see he was Premier League quality so that 'big money' was much less of a risk than pissing it up the wall on say, Fabio Silva.

We made money on Vinagre, Afobe and Mir so whilst playing wise they were misses, at least from a financial perspective they were a success.

I'll probably be in a camp of just one but Marcal did OK for what we paid and as a back up he filled in with a degree of competency.

Ciquinho was all positive before his injury. Toti was quite figuratively plucked from Grasshoppers to fill a gap and did well enough to be here.

Vitinha
Need a special "whiff" category for him. In hindsight another canary in the coalmine for things not being right here.

I guess it depends how you define a hit eg Sang Bin wasn't ever going to set foot in Molineux and we made profit on him, so in terms of what the club wanted he's a hit. Afobe not the same but similar. Marcal delivered in terms of what we paid.

Pedro Gonçalves in the miss
Hugo Bueno in the hits
