REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Johnny stop being a $#@!. I know its hard. You are the very definition of a keyboard warrior.

This country under builds 200 thousand houses a year. Now I concede you can do that with a three d printer as I suggested earlier in the thread but in the main its done by qualified bricklayers, plumbers and electrician's. As I am a qualified electrician , just not up to date I have a clue about that just like you were so keen to point out to me about your football connections.

Just because we are in a digital age does not reduce the need for houses you know!

You are the epitome of an angry man . Debate and disagree by all means but pick your battles man!

Oh dear, a 50+ year old man not knowing how irony works is a little embarrassing at this point.

? Stay off the crack johnny. If your comment was tongue in cheek or ironic why make it? Too clever for your own good. No one likes a smart arse

$#@!ing awesome! An American whose immigration system requires me to register via a database is appalled when a Brit applies a similar logic as to how to stop criminals entering the UK.
Yes, I'm Donald in the flesh. Brilliant argument.

Always been that way as far as I know. Vocational stuff was definitely not on the table in the 90s, our kid had nothing in that sense offered to him at the comp. As it's turned out it hasn't mattered because he's done very well indeed but he was not academic at all and so it was just get what you can in your GCSEs and that's it.

Wasn't much better in the 2000's - youngest son had no real choices available (unless he was in the in the bottom group of no hopers who buggered around & were rewarded with 3 days core skills-English, maths & IT, then out on a work placement for the other 2 days. He was annoyed that I wouldn't let him misbehave enough to get on that).

Came out with little qualifications, but getting an apprenticeship was a nightmare - took 12 months to get taken on by the IMI (Institute of Motor Industries) advanced apprentice scheme & a further 6 months for them to manage to find an employer to take him on under the scheme & cover the cost over and above what they could support for the block release college course (filled in the gap working for my eldest son's BiL though he really shouldn't be allowed to employ staff & doing agency work in factories). We ended up partially supporting him through the apprenticeship as he was earning so little, but it has paid of in the end.

He got there as we were able to push & support him - not all 16 yr olds have that & there really was (or is now) nothing coming from National or Local Government.

As to Free Schools - one of the worst ideas ever thought of - apart from the 'faith school element' its a recipe for middle class parents to extract funding for schools to fit their ideals without any reflection on need within the area

Perhaps we should have a 'Left Wing Tit' Thread. Or the 'I Voted Remain and I am A Twat' Thread. They always know what's best for everyone else don't they. They preach tolerance and respect yet they are more intolerant than anyone else and have no respect for anyone whose views differ from theirs.

So, as you seem to like your links, have a look at this one. You and some of your friends will just love the Student, Kaite Welsh.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boCmsa6wRas

94% of UK Universities have 'censored' free speech in the past year.
Roger Scruton spoke out against same-sex marriage - Banned
Germaine Greer apparently "demonstrated misogynistic views towards trans-women" - Banned
Even Human Rights Activist, Maryam Namazie, who was giving talks which challenged aspects of the Muslim Religion - Banned

Incredibly, the Student says that she believes in Freedom of Speech, and does not believe that this is censorship ?

As Andrew Neil says, she cannot see that people like her have taken away the freedom of speech for these people to speak at their Universities.

Julie Bindel was banned too for God's sake ! Has anyone done more than her to help women or campaigned more against Domestic Violence ?

If these sort of people are being banned then how will they cope with the views of anyone 'Right of Centre' ?

But it's ok because by censoring, students are saying 'No to bigotry' and 'No to hate speech'.

City University London, runs a "Journalism Course", and they voted to ban The Daily Mail, The Sun and The Express.
You couldn't make it up could you.

Of course it's always a small minority of extremists who put these bans in place and they are very dangerous people.

This intolerance to other people's views reminded me of some of the pompous, self righteous posters on here. They are clearly in the minority with their views and are not representative of the views of the vast majority of people in Wolverhampton and many other industrial towns. But they do tend to shout the loudest and mobilise together when one of their own kind has his views questioned. If they don't like an opinion or the way it is expressed, they resort to ridicule or abuse but then get rather upset when they get some thrown back at them and they love telling people that they are 'playing the victim'.

You start a post suggesting a "I voted remain and I'm a Twat" Thread, and then go one to bemoan other people's intolerance. Good work.

Any ridicule or abuse you get is because: A - You post drivel and fail to back it up, and B - whenever you are challenged with a question, you either respond with a question that you want answering first and then ignore the question posed to you, or just outright ignore the question posed to you.

Finally, you point out that people's views on here "are not representative of the vast majority of people in Wolverhampton" you do realise that quite a number of people on here either don't live in Wolverhampton, or weren't originally from the area at all. Why do you again bring it to the point of where someone lives? - "Wolverhampton or other industrial towns"

We don't build houses for many reasons. A big one is a s shortage if tradesmen and women

Brexit has already caused a lack of builders so stop complaining.

So you have nothing to say about the YouTube interview with Andrew Neil then ?

I was replying to a poster in the only way that he understands.

On here, when people get fed up of debating because they don't agree with another point of view, the abuse and ridicule just goes back and forth.

I bring up Wolverhampton as it's a relatively poor area and many of the poorer areas in England voted to Leave.
Maybe given the choice or the money, we would all like to live in a more affluent area ?

I really don't agree that I've avoided answering your questions, but please humour me.

Ask me some direct questions and I will give you some direct answers and then see if you can reply to my answers without throwing insults around or getting abusive etc and I will afford you the same courtesy. Telling me that I post drivel is just your opinion and achieves absolutely nothing.

I've asked countless times where I should live to fit in line with my attitude towards immigration but you've yet to even acknowledge the question nevermind answer it.

DON'T FORGET: Clocks go forward one hour on Sunday the 26th March, then back 45 years on Wednesday the 29th...

On the Andrew Neil interview I saw it live last week. Honestly, at the time I thought Kaite Walsh came across terribly and barely agreed with anything she said, and she was rightly taken to task on her opinions. Having watched your link nothing in there changed my opinion. Not really sure what the point of posting the link was though. Haven't seen any censorship on here, so what was your point?

As for direct questions, you have said numerous times you have concerns around immigration. I don't live in Wolverhampton, moved about 6 years ago. I live in what you refer to as a "leafy middle-class suburbia" so I dont see the issues people in "industrial towns" see, so my question is what are your specific concerns around immigration?

Great I am looking forward to that then. Lets see what legislation can go with it as if we are turning the clock back then I take it anything passed since 1972 is irrelevant. Just a few to mention then

Sex discrimination act- bringing equality of opportunity and pay to the country
Race relations act- Bringing the UK to the forefront of race relations and tolerance in the world
Firearms act- Gun control post hungerford/ Dunblane etc
any legislation on climate change- as it was not until after 1972 people took this seriously
Wildlife and countryside act- 1980 , protections for our flora fauna and animals
Protection from harassment act- Protection from stalkers and pests
Computer misuse act- Protection from scammers and computer abusers.
Anu legislation on civil partnerships and gay marriage- as in 1972 it was only just legal to be gay
Terrorism act 2000
And most importantly the police and criminal evidence act that ensured the police service was more accountable than at any time in its history and gave suspects rights and privileges to protect them.

None of these acts were passed exclusively because we were members of the EU. In many cases our legislation was the lead legislation ( who wrote the human rights act after ww2?)

So I will put my clock forward safe in the knowledge that is one hour on a Sunday morning closer to us leaving the EU and during which I have not had to listen to any drivel about how the dark ages are returning.

As someone who sat on the fence, and all the information that we've now received, 9 months on and if the vote was now, I think I'd have voted remain.

The main reason is due to the uncertainty on open borders. However, I don't think leave is all doom and gloom in the way that some on here will have you believe.

I really believe that had the remain party done a better job then the vote would have been totally different and also if the vote was tomorrow remain would've won.

I think youre right. I wanted to vote leave and presumed I was in a minority. I happily aired my views and debated it thinking it would be at best 55% remain. However as the vote got closer the whole wishy washy nature of BOTH campaigns made it closer to call, but still not a leave winning call.
With a huge dose of hindsight this referendum should never have been called without a clear roadmap and plan for exit. The uncertainty has caused rifts. The vitriol from some is mind boggling. If they put that effort into new ventures the country would be a better place.

Few politicians come out of Brexit with credit. At least Farage was Farage. He did what he said on the tin. D Cam and Corbyn were as weak as piss. Its just a real shame it has come to this where so many will be so pissed off whatever actually happens.

Farage drove the latent racism that toxified the leave campaign - but I guess he is what he is.

"Hello Michael, this is an EU Chief here, you might need to move your HQ into the EU?"

"Okay, how does Dublin sound?"

"Yes, that would be fine."

"Okay, done."

I think leave would have won by another 15%, however we will never know. What we do know is that we have voted to leave the EU.
