REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Absolutely. There are so many reasons why one of the biggest blocks getting their act together would be a really good thing.

I hope they do. They need to improve a lot of things to do that.

It’s a fun piece (in the guardian no less!) rather than serious, but I thought some of you die hard remoaners might enjoy it nonetheless...

For those of us who like to talk Britain down, all this good news is hard to take. The vaccination figures are shocking. Nearly 20 million first doses administered. A forward-thinking procurement plan. The leading large nation, far ahead of the US and, more gallingly for us frothing Remoaners, miles ahead of Europe...

(I can’t seem to remove the bold, sorry)

Sure that’s fabulous comfort for all the fisherman going bust.
It really is a disgrace, they've been badly let down, sold down the river. Considering helping our fishing fleet was one of the cornerstones of brexit, its an absolute nightmare, not only have we not sorted out the unfairness in quota's and fishing grounds, we've also saddled them with more barriers to selling their meagre share of the catch. We'll probably have no fishing fleet left, leaving the big EU factory ships to hoover up all the remaining fish stocks in our waters

Had to go to a site last week about 15 miles from the border, where a big employer from Northern Ireland is now relocating one of its main plants.

Couple hundred jobs which is not an inconsiderable number for either side of the border.

it was never ever about fishing. that was merely a way to capture the vote of coastal towns. Yes they were used, but are you surprised?

I'm not particularly surprised the govt haven't handled it well (as with other aspects of brexit) but I am surprised they're so bad

You hang out regularly with fishermen do you?
Watching the Cornish programme on the Beeb will give you a rather damning picture of Brexit from the fishing prospective.

It's soul destroying for them.

Also if you watch any of the interviews with the langoustine fishermen then you get a devastating picture of how badly the industry as a whole has been hit.

Not a Rees-Mogg or Garage in sight now though. Cunts that they are.

Speaking of which. Cunt

I’ve not seen those programmes, unfortunately- would have thought it would have been in the guardian a bit more, they’re desperate for any sign brexit isn’t going well whilst reporting the vaccine rollout through gritted teeth...

Well it isn't going well. Exports are absolutely fucked.

It's an incredibly stupid idea, incredibly badly executed. None of this being surprising of course.

Wasn't that the irony that Cornwall voted overwhelmingly to leave the EU but the majority of the counties income came from the EU ?

Correct, similar story with South Wales.

Keep the faith remoaner brothers! Everything will be shit in the end, you just need to believe!

What do you mean, "in the end"?

This is shit.

As I say, exports are completely fucked. Already. After two months. We haven't even run out of transitional agreements yet either.

Did you genuinely think everything would be completely sorted on day one? Nothing to straighten out, no more negotiations?

it is genuinely quite entertaining how much some of you guys hate it all. You must detest how well the vaccine rollout is going...

I do hate it, it's one of the worst ideas I've ever seen in any sphere, let alone something that directly impacts on an entire nation. And all self-inflicted.

Your boys and girls had four and a half years to sort something out, did they not? And they sorted out er, nothing. And loads of people are worse off already.

Please give me the list of things that are going to be better to reassure me. Again, this is four and a half years in the waiting.

The negotiations were always going to be brinksmanship stuff, it’s the way the EU works, no surprise there. Given the need for both sides to show they had won to their respective electorate, there were always going to be bits that needed renegotiating later too.

one thing to bear in mind is that if exports suffer, people exporting here will suffer too, which raises the option of making whatever was to be imported here more economical - you can have your laboury dream of factories belching out smoke and smog restored!
