REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

That's a really interesting point Papper. Are we seeing a succession of ever further lurches to the extremes of the political spectrum? I bloody hope not as it is not a good thing.

Not really, certainly not in this country. For all it’s faults first past the post elections keep the two main political parties broadly around the centre. It is a fallacy to describe Johnson’s Conservatives as far right or Corbyn’s Labour as far left. Remove Brexit and Johnson is still a liberal Tory who will adopt elements of Thatcher’s economic policies to appease that wing of his party. Corbyn and his team are to the left of Labour Party policy but you can already see the likes of McDonnell, Thornberry and others trying to wrestle control and move the party’s policy and image back towards the centre just as Johnson is aware that they need to be talking positively about NHS, Education and Police - the public sector.

Brexit has polarised the country enabling populism but both main parties, having been pulled left and right by their minority extremes, will soon revert to a slightly more left and right version of their former selves. The days of Blair and Cameron might be gone but I don’t see us having extreme political parties in power any time soon.

There is no political spectrum there is an anarchy due to political misrepresentation. I think it's great because i am an anarchist. The political class (or rather the trust in politicians) is null and void ...

Okaaaaaay...

What is the anarchist utopia you seek? I struggle to understand that, as surely some form of order and rules is an important thing in a society. Your beliefs are obviously different. I find that hard to comprehend but would be really interested to understand where your view comes from, and what ideals you are looking for.

No point asking want he wants as he doesn't know. He does however know how to get it.

The answer to this is simple - just have Ref2 and GE on the same day.

Johnson himself is fairly liberal as far as Tories go (much like Cameron, he's never been a fire and brimstone type and doesn't really believe in anything other than "I want power", they're more similar than they'd care to admit) but he has stacked his Cabinet with some appalling people.

Plus I fear that Gideon's austerity policies have permanently reset the dial while we have a Tory Government.

There is a crazy alternative time line out there where Boris published his article on why we should remain and how he will be backing that. Also another one where we are all living under the chaos caused by Ed Miliband

Hard to imagine but we should actually now be at a point where there's an election in May 2020 under the terms of the FTPA and David Cameron is gently handing over the keys to No 10 to his successor as he didn't want a third term.

He seems aaaaages ago. The ham faced bastard.

Although to be honest they'd probably have picked Theresa May so we'd just get a different shade of cunt, later than actually happened. I mean she's been getting a fairly easy ride lately (like "she was naturally awkward but at least she had this deal and she wasn't Boris"). No, she was awful on every level. A horrible, horrible person and her deal was also a pile of buffalo wank.

Liberals and SNP combine to back a December election if EU extends by three months.

Game on.

Boris likes this
Nigel likes this
Jeremy tweets another picture of vegetarian curry.

LDs a morons if they agree to a December vote, they will have loads of students away from their constituencies.

On a personal point of view, fuck elections in December.

Stupid question but if there is a blanket of snow, like in early December 2017, would the election be called null and void?

No, more Tories are likely to have 4x4s, so they will let it go.

Well if Swinson wants to get into an arrangement with the SNP I hope she has plans to move constituencies somewhere south of the border as her seat would be in serious danger.

Appreciated the reply. This place gets far too egocentric with a loose splattering of 'worship me' type sentiment among a few. The sheep here just carry favour with them to be 'included'. I feel any progressive society must be 'expert laden' but the problem for the proles in terms of representation is not necessarily an education but a blatant attempt through Parliament to reverse a decision they were invited to make. Farage wanker will exploit this but as you know I much prefer socila justice to the corporate centralisation that is premised by the EU club.

If Parliament actively seeks to derail a vote that was spelled out quite explicitely there will be a backlash and there is nothing populist about that. Why is political ideology even seen as extreme? This is the brainless logic of the political suburban classes that results in people like Trump getting elected.
