REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

That’s getting on (Exports), not off or are you saying that Port of Rotterdam, Port of Antwerp, Port of Hamburg, etc. are going to grind to a halt?

You can’t create issues that aren’t there.

And of course if we crash out we won't make it difficult and check everything. No Siree.

Yes - that is actually a very real concern.

So a political entity would knowingly cause the deaths of hundreds of thousands of the weakest and infirm in society for it's own political ends? You know where I'm going with this don't you?
Nein, nein, nein!

Nope, read it twice and I can’t see where there’s going to be queues on motorways exiting the port.

A statement issued by the Cabinet Office last month said that cross-government planning assumptions have been revised to show that, in a worst-case scenario, "there will be very significantly reduced access across the short strait [between Dover and Calais] for up to six months".

The statement noted that, in a no-deal scenario, the EU would impose full third-country controls on people and goods entering the EU from the UK. The impact, the Cabinet Office said, would affect both imports and exports at Dover and Folkestone (home of the Channel Tunnel) because of the "frequent and closed loop nature" of the crossings.

Try looking closer to home and the blood that IDS and Gideon in particular have on their hands.

Wonder what the 'best case scenario' is.

It's a bit like the: 'we're not going to share information with you regarding terrorists and criminals'. Load of absolute bollocks imo. Just more eu/remainer scaremongering. Makes no sense whatsoever and benefits no one.

It's all very well to say "that will never happen".

But we have nothing at all set up to replace all the systems that are in place, and by definition with No Deal we rip everything up. Nothing rolls over. We don't have the people to sort it all out. We haven't done any proper planning.

We're currently hiding under a pile of coats and hoping it will work out ok. As far as I'm aware that strategy has a historical success rate of around 0%.

Got to agree with Penk on the traffic issue.

If everyone is getting held up in the ports getting through customs then the roads leading away from them are going to be pretty clear, they're downstream of the pinch point. It's your out going shipments that are going to back up onto British roads as they won't have the capacity within the ports to accommodate all the people waiting to go through customs in that direction.

Now in some towns there's obviously going to be issues where the latter impacts on the former, junctions getting blocked by queueing people not leaving gaps they should but that's not going to happen on major routes.

That is not the consensus view. Both imports and exports will be screwed.

All for nothing as I'm still waiting for these tangible benefits of Brexit from someone, anyone. On here, Twitter, Facebook, from politicians, whoever. I don't need rhetoric about Blitz spirit (anyone who properly remembers that now will be at least well into their 80s, incidentally). I don't need survival guides from the Government at a cost of £100m to the taxpayer. I don't need to be told to believe harder. I need to know what we get out of this act of what seems (to me, at least) like an act of economic suicide.

Oh, and this is before we address the Irish issue, which I'm sure Rob and Donegal are more versed in than me.

I haven't seen anyobe argue that it won't have an effect on traffic in either direction, customs checks will work both ways after all. What I, and I think Penk too, are arguing against is your earlier comment about medical supplies being snarled up on our motorways even after clearing the ports.

If the customs issues cause massive delays, almost certain, then those delays will occur in the ports. So it's only outgoing traffic that will back up onto British roads, presumably they'd have to restrict the number of incoming ferries or something to avoid overloading our ports on the incoming side. Roads away from our ports should remain relatively free as the volume of traffic that currently see if massively restricted by customs checks, so anything that does get through should have an easy route afterwards.

Yes, because of tariffs, checks and paperwork for those tariffs. Remove that and imports won’t be screwed.

As for benefits, totally different discussion and one that I side with you on.

You could even use somewhere like Luton and fly all the medicines in.

What did the Blair Government do regarding welfare that killed people?

He sent soldiers into a stupid war and they got killed, I'll accept that. Don't join the Army if you don't want to be shot at.

Yep and fuck the foreigners that perished they were expendable.
War criminal. Should be strung up, the arch remainer.

If you care to find all the posts I've made defending the Iraq war then be my guest. Will be like finding Christophe Berra's greatest Wolves goals though.

IDS and Gideon are much more recent and actual domestic policy, which was what your original post (harking back to the Third Reich, classy) was banging on about as best as I could make out.

I'm not the world's biggest Tony Blair fan. He was a better PM than anyone else in my lifetime by a country mile though. And I'm 40 in just over 18 months.

So possibly hundreds of thousands could die because of Brexit?

Austerity has led to tens of thousands dying early. It has objectively resulted in earlier deaths. We all know this.
Brexit is merely the next step.
The people who will be hardest hit, will be the most vulnerable, and the most at risk.

Of course, you'll likely revert to "but labour..."
