REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Flight to Dublin at 8 from Birmingham. Guinness will keep me awake

Alistair Campbell makes an excellent point that the referendum has unleashed a revolt against the strain of living in modern Britain. The electorate he feels is punishing the establishment. It was never going to be solely about the EU in the end.

The same establishment he was part of for years, but did nothing to change.

He has the luxury of commentating on it nowadays Frank. He's still right, people are pissed off and have stuck two fingers up to the govt and the EU.

Agreed. I suppose it is always easier looking in from the outside.

I could be wrong, (I usually am) but I expect the votes in London and other inner city areas may tip things in favour of the remain camp.

Interesting that in Yorkshire they are not only expecting a very high turnout, but a big majority for the leave campaign. It remains to be seen if that is true, but it would question the belief that high turn outs favour the remain campaign.

Just ordered my Euros for upcoming holiday after reading the concerns of the pound tumbling, didn't want to risk waiting until morning and ending up with a shit rate, things not panning out quite as hoped so far.

Should probably get some sleep, need to be up in about 5 hours.

So overall turnout is being pitched at 68%. Hmmmm.

16.4m votes is the target.

I must admit I expected a higher turnout. Basically nearly one in three people did not bother to vote. I just do not understand it.

I wish that people would vote in every election, irrespective of their political persuasion, we are fortunate enough to be in a democracy where we have a free vote. It is a shame that people do not always exercise their democratic right.

Hartlepool looking like a landslide victory for the out campaign.

Good early news from Birmingham. Always loved Brummies.

(We'll say no more about Dudley.....)
