REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

?
I thought he was leader of the liberals?

And to be fair when it comes to xenophobia Australians on the whole get more than a share of your distain.:confused-smiley-013

The Liberal party is basically the Aussie Conservative party. Abbott is also a science-ignoring, climate-change denying buffoon.

How many seats did they win? If Cameron hadn't promised a referendum I think they might have won the odd seat.
People like Farage only become popular because they redress a perceived imbalance. Extremists on the 'left'. create extremists on the 'right' and vice versa i'd say.
I bid you goodnight anyway. I need to sleep.

None. Ukip only ever had 1 MP, who defected from the tories and retained his seat based on the work he had done as a constituent MP.
They have never, ever been a serious party.

In first past the post UKIP were never going to be a big threat in taking seats. Whilst Cameron was clearly worried about them taking votes & letting Labour in suspect that they took as many votes from them as well so really didn't change the ratio between Tory & Labour that significantly

Yeah, I know. It was a retoricle question...
They had people worried though, particularly Cameron, partly the reason why he promised a referendum and also as as DW said to shut up the europhobes in parliament.
Similar to what was done with the Scots indyref.
Anyway it is all now water under the bridge, we are where we are and Brexit in some form must be enacted next March.

Mays said in a speech today, brexit will work,it's people's lives we're dealing with, not political theory,
Spokesman from the CBI said that's basically bollocks,it's going to damage the UK for decades.
Who to believe eh,The politician or the expert?

Well if Brexit has only taught us 1 thing it's ignore the experts.

Just a little indicator of the damage Brexit is already doing.... A company local to me, Surrey Satellite Technologies, who have built the payloads for all of the European Space Agency's satellites, are now locked out of any such projects because all participants need to be in EU member states. They're looking to move parts of their operation to Europe so they don't lose this part of their business but there's no chance of them being involved in anything in the near future because of the uncertainty around our status.

So for anyone saying "let's wait and see" or "it all be fine in ten years time when we've got trade deals with Costa Rica and Nepal", consider what damage will have been done well before then.

Oh, and while I'm here, T-Bag's implication that EU nationals had "jumped the queue" in finding work in the UK is an appalling slur on people who have contributed immensely to this country.

It's dog whistle racism, presumably to get support for her deal by reminding the country that we hate foreigners

T-Bag's implication that EU nationals had "jumped the queue" in finding work in the UK.

So British people jumped the queue?

(Almost as good as a Brit on Twitter saying her French village had no immigrants until recently....forgetting she is infact an immigrant herself so there was at least 1 there when she moved)

Moronic comment.
What 'race' are we talking about here?
Europeans? didn't know that was a race and if it is the British are part of it.

Everybody else is the race obviously, as the whole thing is immigration guff. So the British aren't part of it in her context. It's an ill-thought comment at best and she does seem to be getting some heat for it.

Lets say Nationalistic then, but it's not racist. The term is used so freely that it has become meaningless. It's no different to labelling everyone in the Labour party antisemitic imo.
