REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

We already have/had the right to repatriate EU nationals if after three months, they hadn't found a job and/or couldn't support themselves.

We chose not to use that right, the same as we never bothered controlling non-EU immigration properly. Ask the Government why that is.

At no time have I said that the UK government hasn't failed re the options they had - but if they hadn't been here we wouldn't have had to bother removing them (the balance of responsibility does apply to our side though)

There you are, then. I never even knew that existed. Open goal for the remainers, even after Cameron was stupid enough to call the thing in the first place.

Any chance of a c&p as it behind a paywall?
Sorry, I've used my free articles for the month, so can't get back in.
Summary was Jo Johnson:
Loved Cameron and particularly Gideon
devastated they went
Was a remainer, wrote the 2015 manifesto and saw the referendum as necessary to win because of UKIP but not a political issue mid term.
May didn't believe in Brexit, didn't ever think we'd get a good deal so didn't look for one. Didn't ever engage with Brexiters nor take their views on board, which is why she's got the deal she has.
Thinks it needs to go back to the electorate but irrespective of whip will vote the current deal down.

Interesting stuff. Kind of confirms what we all suspected about May. She's a dictator.

She's just a bizarre character. So she didn't engage with Brexiters...at the same time she was basically saying to the 48% on the "losing" side that they didn't matter a toss (and this message has been 100% consistent, she has never shown any wish to even acknowledge that 16m people or so do not want this whatsoever, "will of the people" and all that). So this deal...it's for who exactly?

Felix Magath in politician form.

“The future of the country and our relationship with Europe is at stake. This deal gives us no voice, no votes, no MEPs, no commissioner.”

Leave campaigner, Nadine Dorries.

Leave campaigner, Nadine Dorries.

Now I'm not one to defend Dorries, but that quote has been all over Twitter and is taken out of context. Yes, she is as thick as pig shit, but what she was talking about was the deal May has put on the table, effectively being a satellite member of the EU without any influence. She's right by the way, where we differ is how to avoid it.

It actually isn't worse than no deal which would be an economic disaster.

This deal is horrendous as well. Giving parliament a binary choice between two absolute shit sandwiches is going to see them rejecting both choices.

I can see a lot of people disengaging with politics after this.

Nobody is getting what they want or think they want, more than a handful of politicans have been exposed as self-interested

Corbyn is missing a big opportunity, May isn't the person to take us forward and people like JRM are so decidedly unelectable I can't help but think we've either got a few years of meandering or someone else coming in to fill the vacuum, and God knows who that might be

The proposed deal reflects the quality of person working on it these past two years and the level of intelligence they took to the process.

In fairness history shows that extreme views rise during times of political strife so either left wing or right wing views will rise. Given USA lead I think the latter.

It's only a time of political strife because David Cameron was a spineless fucking quimbecile who thought he could shut the extremist fucknuggets in his own party up by delivering a referendum that could never be lost, and then managed to find a way to spectacularly lose it, because Nigel Farage was able to rattle is racist little sabre all the way to the ballot box*

*I am accusing Farage of that, NOT the people who voted leave, okay.

There were enough of those who believed him to probably swing the vote - I've not made a secret of voting out, but he didn't sway me at all - his reasons for leaving don't mirror mine in any way (as I'm sure that he didn't for many others, but for some he will have). Whether it's their fault or purely his is not overly relevant now we are where we are.

Biggest fault for me is apportioned to Cameron in calling the vote to deal with party issues without giving much thought to the possible result outcome if it wen't against him, when he got given nothing from an attempted EU reorganisation for the UK he should have stood back, regrouped & tried to build partners inside the union (& I suspect there are some) & then gone again. Instead he just bailed out to live in a caravan & write a book!
