REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

The £ won't tank lower than it has over the last couple of years as this has already been priced in. Mid $1.20's and around €1.10 should be the bottom.

I've just been chatting to the lady who handles our currency stuff. She's got some very upset and worried clients.
A low pound is actually good for my business as we mostly get paid in euros so but agree with TT that it's unlikely plummet much further.

It seems to me that Jez got the following points over:

1. This deal fails the labour tests and so labour will not be voting in favour. With the DUP position that kills it stone dead. It cannot pass Parliament.
2. He said a no deal Brexit is "not a real option". So, he must be positioning himself for one of two outcomes - either a huge extension to Article 50 to allow for open ended discussions, or alternatively a second vote.

The second is the key point although he landed a few weak blows at the dispatch box.

As I say, no way this deal survives. Now it is question of whether May, or indeed the government can outlive it. I think we could be looking at another election in January.

He is going for the extension option. Already told May that is what she should be doing. May has responded with that plan wouldn't work and to be fair she is getting quite the expert at seeing plans that will fail.

She's taking an absolute battering from everybody. All of them.

This is pretty much unsurvivable. Especially with Rees-Mogg talking about writing to the Chair of the 1922 Committee.

There seems to be a lot of support for a second vote in there too.

Listening to the discussion while at work.

This is complete insanity. The proposal WILL be shot down, and rightfully so as it is pathetic. And Theresa says she will soldier on to Brexit with or without a deal.

I can't believe this.

I think Paddy keep mentioning the 2nd vote as an option is more in hope than reality.

She has no choice else it will be the end of the Tory party at the next election.

what a farce this is, who'd have thunk it :icon_rolleyes:

In judging and obtaining the numbers to secure her deal through the House of Commons it seems the Prime Minister has the people skills of Sheldon Cooper but sadly not his mathematical abilities

Ouch - burn from Peter Weir

I do keep mentioning it more in hope than expectation, but a second referendum is actually the ONLY way out of this. Either that or just admit the whole thing cannot be negotiated, revoke Article 50, and put it to bed forever.

Cancel it and never hold a referendum on anything ever again is more sensible than running another vote.

The people have shown that they cannot be trusted, so don't trust them.

She keeps talking about the vote on this deal as if a real thing. It's a complete and utter waste of time, and there really isn't much left. Especially if we end up with no deal.

Emergency meeting of Rees-Mogg's motley crew at ERG called for about now. Clearly going to the 1922 committee with a letter of no confidence.

Just keep extending the date until people are that bored off it it's all forgotten about.

Gove's been offered the position of Brexit secretary apparently. Not sure why anyone would want to take that job.

This was the essential huge problem with the whole process. The EU clearly said there would be no negotiation until Article 50 was signed. So there was no way of knowing whether a deal was even possible until after committing to crashing out if negotiations failed. Lunacy to even start down that road.

That's not a good thing. Rees-Mogg gets in and a No Deal is a certainty.

It'd actually be a pretty canny move if he knows the right number of letters are going to the 1922 Committee. A Brexit supporting Brexit Minister, hanging around for a day or two until the PM is gone. It'd position himself nicely as long as he doesn't have to make a speech supporting the deal in between him being appointed and ERG ousting her.
