REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

He has had a fucking mare there.

Touted for a big promotion this morning, and now that will be in tatters (not that it matters as I suspect there will be a new leader and a fairly extensive cabinet re-shuffle that will see him carted off to the back benches)

Imagine if we end up with say, Gove as PM (bad enough on its own) and he stocks the Cabinet with all the worst characters...Johnson, Rees-Mogg, Davis, Davies, Raab, Redwood, Fox, IDS, McVey, Patel, Leadsom etc.

In what world are they going to negotiate anything?

In fact imagine their domestic policies, fuck me.

Graham Brady has been to see the Chief Whip in House of Commons - has told Julian Smith 48 letter threshold as not (yet) been reached

As an aside I would quite like Graham Brady's job. He seems to do nothing other than wait for people to give him letters. Pretty sweet gig.

To be brutally honest, I can see a vote of no confidence in the GOVERNMENT being called in the house just as easily. The agreement with the DUP has clearly collapsed so this is minority government and there would be a real danger of losing that vote.

To be on the 1922 committee, let alone Chair it, one of the prerequisites does appear to be a substantial amount of cuntitude though. Not sure you qualify.

Pretty much nailed it there chaps

Gove has turned down Raab's job, according to the Standard, so I'd take this to mean a leadership bid is pretty much certain.

Also JRM has just said he doesn't want the leadership. Although I'd trust him as much as I'd trust a snake.

This might be my last post on here as I've spat coffee all over my laptop.

Rees-Mogg says all the negative predictions about Brexit have not come to pass.

It is hard to hear Rees-Mogg because a protestor is shouting in the background.

He says there are “streams of talent” in the Conservative party, and plenty of people who could be leader. He names a series of Brexiters, including Boris Johnson and David Davis.

Rees-Mogg says, if 48 letters do not go in, that will not be good for him. It is not much good if you lead and no one follows, he says.

He predicts that 48 letters will go in - but not necessarily today.

JRM - A stupid person's idea of a clever person.

I'm torn between wanting Cruella gone and wanting Lord Snooty's to be the only letter that goes in.

This complete meltdown is the only thing that can possibly happen given the positions of everyone involved. It should quite rightly be the end of the Tory party for the rest of my lifetime. Their gross mismanagement of the last 8 years is close to criminal. Lets hope that new party gets its act together quick!

I really wouldn't be so sure.

First of all he'd have to get in the top two, selected and voted for by Tory MPs. That would be a huge barrier as he's a joke figure outside of his tiny cabal of cohorts.

He has zero ministerial experience, as in none whatsoever.

No that's true, but IF he did manage to engineer himself into a position as leader, i think he'd garner quite a lot of support in a GE, people respect him and his opinion, it's incredible, but they do.

The amount of working class people that like JRM legit makes me want to scromit

All of his opinions fall to pieces under scrutiny. Using a few fancy words here and there doesn't actually mean anything.

If you want me to write an op-ed about a subject I know nothing about, I can probably blag it by borrowing hastily Googled opinions/stats from elsewhere and tarting up the language a bit. I'm a writer. Superficially it would look great. Anyone who knows what they're talking about would rip it apart.
