REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Don't get annoyed it's not worth the blood pressure tablets. In 2015 UKIP polled almost 4 million votes. Yet nobody saw that as an indicator of the country's feeling.

Simply because not one (single agenda) UKIP candidate was elected. There were more concerns for the electorate than the EU.

I think you see xenophobia too readily. I think there is less of it in reality. I agree there is caution and often through ignorance but to pin that as xenophobia for the majority is at best a reach.
I can only speak for my own experience and almost exclusively those who I know voted to leave did so based on two factors immigration and 'taking control'. It's debatable whether you put either of those down as xenaphobic or misguided, depending on the individual I'd say both.

L lol I get it. If you are a racist then you are likely to have voted Brexit but as I have said previously not all Brexit voters are xenophobic or racist. Pinning brexit solely on pensioners and racists is completely inaccurate

Even the Heil have realised siding with a traitor is not going to look good in the future

So if MPs and civil servants knew or suspected this one to two years ago why was it not called at the time? Don't give me any fear of reprisals bullshit either. You are a public servant. If you fail to act in your duty you are liable.

We are pushing the sides to extreme. We are forcing people to choose left or right even if your views are largely moderate. Exactly what extremist wants as it gives them unlikely power

It was, repeatedly. Banks was called before MPs, questions have been raised in the House, the matter was investigated by the Electoral Commission who passed on their findings to the police.

No prosecution though why?

You only need reasonable grounds to suspect? NCA could have been involved 3 years ago. Why weren't they?

Great if there is the evidence prosecute. However why has it taken 3 years to make this decision? Evidence has been there allegedly since 2015 according to the article? If someone reported you for a criminal offence with evidence to back the claim up and it took the police or similar agency 3 years to come and knock on your door surely there would be questions similar to the ones I am asking?

It has taken a long time to get this far due to the reluctance to investigate, especially from the government and from the police. The claims are that Theresa May herself blocked an investigation in 2016 due to the 'sensitivity around Brexit'.

I get the impression it has taken a LOT of digging for it to even get this far. Carole Cadwalladr has done an excellent job in trying to expose the alleged corruption by Banks/Vote Leave. Although she does write for the Guardian/Observer so some of you may think she had spent too much time knitting synthetic dairy products while wearing organic sandals to do any serious journalism...

The answer is in your answer. Alleged corruption. There is no smoke without fire but so far people are not finding enough fire to substantiate the claim. Now if there is evidence I am all for an investigation and a prosecution but until then it's just more allegations as yet unproven. How do we know there was police reluctance? I read the allegations against May but don't see where the police have been reluctant . I may have missed something?

Police have launched a criminal inquiry into allegations orrf anti-Semitic hate crimes within the Labour Party.

That's what generally happens when police are presented with evidence of a possible offence.

Then they gather more evidence
Then they submit a file to the crown prosecution service for a prosecution decision
Then charges are made if the evidence is sufficient
Then the case goes to court for trial.

As none of that has happened with banks to date I can only conclude that so far there is not the evidence to support an investigation.

Yet.

Apparently Dominic Raab didn't understand quite how important the trade route via Calais was prior to being the Brexit minister.

"I hadn’t quite understood the full extent of this, but if you look at the UK and look at how we trade in goods, we are particularly reliant on the Dover-Calais crossing"
