REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

If it is to do with funnelling Russian money to influence the result then that is treason?

As the bexiters are so fond of saying there is still the death penalty for treason too :)
They're wrong though, the death penalty disappeared altogether from our statute books about 20 years ago.

I guarantee you that if we held a referendum on whether to reintroduce it, the wall of gammon would ensure that yes won. Don't trust people with decisions, they don't know what they're doing.

We don't want none of your facts here.

You don't think the result would be different?

I’m still not sure which way it would go. I know it’s only a small poll, but I was expecting this to be in favour of remain by at least 60/40.

My "problem" with that, Craig, is how did those same people vote last time? The same 558 people could have had a 70% leave but now swung down to 53%...
It's all relative

It’s too small to tell you anything. Was just surprised by the result.

Absolutely not. Not even close.

It would win. People are stupid. It always polls really high as well.

Lots of things poll high until push comes to shove. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-32061822

It's been steadily dropping for most of this century since 2002 finally outlawed it!
There wasn't a lot of interest in leaving the EU until it was put to the nation with jaundiced rationale of all the damage it was doing to our green and pleasant land.

Imagine the kind of emotional shit the hang em and flog em brigade would bring to the table pre any referendum. I would imagine a Venn diagram of Brexit supporters pro capital punishment would see a very sizable overlap.

Really? Then why did Cameron call this referendum? Because he thought it was a vote winner vis a vis enough people wanted it as to make it popular. Like you with capital punishment our Dave under estimated the feeling

Nah, he did it because he was scared of the nut jobs in his own party. No one else really gave a toss, apart from the wider nut job community.

The 52% nut job community! I mean we have some issues in the UK but to label 52% as nutjobs is both politically incorrect and probably a tad dismissive

I try not to get annoyed on here, but fuck off. Your point was asking who was bothered about the EU before the referendum, don't take my answer out of context.

There are tons of polls showing less than 10% could care less pre-referedum, those were the odd but jobs such as Rees mogg and friends.

Nope, all about shutting down the right wing of his own Party which he spectacularly misread.

I think that was only part of it. I misread the people's mood re Brexit but having done a lot of work on human rights capital punishment remains an unpopular policy in this country

Don't get annoyed it's not worth the blood pressure tablets. In 2015 UKIP polled almost 4 million votes. Yet nobody saw that as an indicator of the country's feeling. Hindsight is a great gift but there were some serious serious miscalculations with regard to the strength of feeling against the EU . I just believe that there is a significant anti capital punishment lobby here now . Even amongst Brexit supporter's. Now I agree they would jump at the hang a terrorists options but it's much more than that as you know.

You're confusing people being xenophobic with dislike of the EU.

I think you see xenophobia too readily. I think there is less of it in reality. I agree there is caution and often through ignorance but to pin that as xenophobia for the majority is at best a reach.
