REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Right firstly Google 'Essential Medicines Buffer Stock', secondly nearly 80% of our food is sourced domestically and thirdly the vast majority of imports are coming through the port of London now but that's not as sensational as implying Dover will implode at 8am the following morning !!
What he is saying is correct, in moderation, just cut out the sensationalism and remember I lived through Y2K when planes were going to plummet from the skies !

The essential medicines buffer stock is for just 3 months supply of medicines.

According to the Government, 49% of food is sourced domestically.

London handles more tonnage than Dover but to say it is the vast majority, which implies that London handles more than all other UK ports combined, is incorrect. Grimsby and Immingham handle more tonnage and Dover handles twice the amount of traffic of London.

Planning for situations should take into account all possible outcomes, no matter how unlikely they will be. I doubt anyone believes that the Armageddon outcome is likely in it's entirety but there may be elements of it that do occur and it makes common sense to have contingencies for all possible outcomes.

We are so entwined in EU regulation and practices that we haven't needed to develop our own regulations in many areas for decades. We still don't have a solution for our land border with the EU and we are meant to be leaving next year. Our ports have systems that are developed as part of our membership of the EU, not as an independent trading nation. Personally, I am glad that we have civil servants (not politicians) who are working on consequences and solutions.

The essential medicines buffer stock is for just 3 months supply of medicines. So not within a fortnight as per the article in question ?

According to the Government, 49% of food is sourced domestically. Sorry, don't know where Id concocted that figure from, shall we agree that 30% is from the EU, so we'll have to cope with 70% of supply ?

Grimsby and Immingham handle more tonnage and Dover handles twice the amount of traffic of London. I was using Thamesport as a comparison to Dover as more freight traffic is planned on being routed that way

Totally agree with you but we only get to see the sensational headlines as being debated here that paints a picture of a post apocalypse style UK that you must admit is pure scaremongering
.

These are the Civil Service's own findings though...

Still I suppose anything is possible with imagination and courage, thanks for that IDS.

I don’t think the essential medicine buffer stock was set up to deal with a government’s inability to plan for a known shortage caused by an inability to negotiate a deal well in advance. Hospitals will run out of stocks within two weeks, we would the have to dip into stocks that are there for unexpected and calamitous disaster scenarios.

If we lose 30% of our fuel and food imports there will be shortages, perhaps even rationing in the short term.

Even if only some elements of the worst case scenario it will still have a significant detrimental impact yet it is just dismissed as scaremongering by politicians who instead should be outlin8ng how these things won’t happen.

And they didnt, because thousands of people spent two years preparing and making sure. Brexit day is 11 months away, and so far we've done nothing.

Where are the lorry parks? The cuistoms posts? How many customs officers have we trained?

It's all very random - Dutch arm of our company has a Brexit team with 6 senior managers working with the Dutch government on strategy, the British arm tried to do the same - not heard a sausage back from any government department they've contacted, only the CBI seem to doing anything.

Was that Sun "Britain" photomontage done by a primary school child? And anyway is almost entirely England.

Cunts.

What are you saying, you don't feel swelled by pride at a 1950s bus, the Federal Republic of Germany's Mini, the EU-funded Angel of the North and the Loch Ness Monster?

Traitor.

Ah, I didn't spot Nessie. Well, in the sunny uplands of unicorn infested Brexit Britain, I guess she'll feel right at home.

Though you could argue that the Qatar-financed Shard is a very appropriate symbol of modern Britain.

Hogwarts is on the back cover, apparently.

An establishment that celebrates diversity and welcomed students from other schools across Europe (France and Hungary IIRC) to compete in the Triwizard Tournament so I reckon they'd be very pro-EU.

To be fair the if the smoke billowing power station does not fill you with British pride then you are dead inside !
