REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

34 per cent of the vote counted
With 34 percent of the vote counted, France's Interior Ministry says that far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen is leading with 24.6 percent of the vote followed by centrist Emmanuel Macron with 21.9 percent.

The early vote count includes primarily rural constituencies that lean to the right, while urban areas that lean left are counted later, so this does not wipe out the earlier projection that has Mr Macron as the frontrunner.

Euro set to reach 4 week high as Macron wins first round of French election.

The EU, just loves global elitists, who have worked for Rothchilds. Macron is everything what is wrong with the world today. To support someone, because he isn't someone else is nothing to be happy with. I detest the cunt and everything he represents.

Maybe you should find a French football forum and 'inform' them of that ad nauseum, they might be fascinated, you never know.

Do you have any idea what he represents though? Or are you just having a pop because he used to work for an investment bank?

Macron belongs to the liberal wing of the inspectorate. He joined Les Gracques, a group that consists of right-wing PS civil servants and corporate managers. When Macron spoke at their annual meeting a few days after the November 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris, he said that “the wound that we suffered this week is the wound of France’s Muslims” and reminded his listeners that “a person, on the pretext that he has a beard or a name that could sound Muslim, has four times fewer chances to get a job interview than someone else.” Macron has also supported Germany’s decision to take in an unlimited number of refugees, castigated the Right and far right for exploiting the theme of secularism to spread Islamophobic rhetoric, argued for French multiculturalism, and called colonization a crime against humanity.

Would that not be an election loser in France?

I don't think macrons that massively popular - but similarly to the states his opponents aren't either. Heard an interview this mornjng on five live stating that almost half the voters went for anti eu leaders, but macron will walk it because he's not as tarnished as le pen.

Fillon would probably have walked it if it weren't for the expenses scandal.

Macron will walk it because he will be backed by big money and the establishment.

Macron is probably not what is needed, but will win purely because he's not Le Pen

If you are for her then nothing else will do, but the majority will either be against or ambivalent & not prepared to go that far right.

Probably right but Britain and the USA have both underestimated the strength of feeling for change in their respective countries in the last 12 months. 62% of French want an EU exit at the last count. Huge numbers are concerned about immigration. It would be very unwise to write her off yet. She is not her father. She is not Trump. She is sharp and far more astute and could pick up a significant female vote. This is no shoe in.

Looks like another 52%/48% vote then - that went well last time!

You really do talk some $#@! sometimes

Are you saying that Macron is not backed by big money and the establishment? because if you are, I think it is you who is talking shit.
Macron will win, because globalisation will not accept a Le Pen victory. It would lead to the break up of the EU and set globalisation back years.
