REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

A bit harsh surely? Based on the results of the referendum, it's a proven fact that the majority of those who voted believed the cons of being part of the EU outweigh the pros. I suspect if another referendum were to be held tomorrow the result would swing sharply in the other direction but that's just my gut feeling based on the fact that the government are seen to be winging it.

Not true, the goverment ratings are very high.

Well it won't be the UK will it as we're "closing the borders"

And which countries specifically have high levels of corruption?

Exactly, we will controlling our borders. Spain, Italy, etc.

Maybe the millions of youth unemployed in Spain could move to Britain to get some of that sweet sweet unregulated clinical trial action?

I don't know much about pharma regulation, but I imagine if new medicines aren't tested to the standard required by the EU, it's unlikely that they'll be legal for sale in the EU. So that's that little market off the books. US regulation is pretty shit hot too, I think, so they won't be too keen on drugs that we've only tested forcibly on a few benefits fraudsters.

I have never heard that we have too many young Spaniards and Italians in the UK and they're destabilising the low paid economy. I thought this was the eastern Europeans fault. Or am I missing something here?

No, you dont understand. The Germans are desperate to buy unregulated pharmaceuticals.

The EU countries that have recieved hundreds of billions but still have very high unemployment and high levels of government corruption, where do you think their citizens will go to find work? Because they have no hope or possibility in their own countries. Probably the UK and Germany?

Might have been a better idea for the EU to have promoted increased trade in these countries. The single market hasn't worked them.

This possible demographic disaster will grossly affect the Latvian economy, making growth impossible, the article says.

Ukrainians encouraged to do low skilled work in Poland because those that normally do low skilled work in Poland have gone to the UK to do low skilled work for more money.

Well if Sputnik news (owned and operated by the Kremlin) says that Latvia is in crisis then maybe the Latvians should be liberated like Crimea, yes?

FFS.

They are EU countries that have seen no benefit from the single market. There are hundreds of references. You can pooh pooh it all you like.

I don't need your permission to pooh pooh a blatantly self serving pro Russian article put out by the state controlled Russian news agency, thanks.

Better, but Im not sure what point you're trying to prove.

Oh thanks Vis. Erm .. that the single market hasn't helped these countries, it's freedom of movement is a capitalist tool of exploitation and that the levels of emigration have caused downturns in their economy i.e. the sort of downturns that remainers point to in the UK following Brexit ??

What's the solution though? Everyone has to stay where they're born, that's just tough luck?

How unfeasible would it have been for the EU's single market to also enforce common labor and wage standards?

Absolutely. The Union in terms of a Socialist and progressive movement never existed. It exists for the corporations and the people of 'this cub' only exist to consume and produce (in the cheapest possible way) to put £'s in these peoples pockets. The wealth inequality all over Europe is startling.

Essentially unworkable in terms of wages; the cost of living is never going to be homogenised from Rome to Riga.

There are Working Time Directives that everyone is signed up to.
