REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

He's the mayor of one of the largest cities in the world, elected to look after the interests of its residents. Why shouldn't he put their case forward? Kind of his job, isn't it?

Sturgeon may have said it, albeit in a roundabout way, but it clearly isn't true and is utterly nonsensical so it's as meaningless as any other untruth in the campaign

You are right it clearly is nonsensical and shows the pair of them as complete buffoons. Clearly London should have a say, I mean why wouldn't they, it doesn't come across as arrogant at all :spaz:

Sturgeon, I give you, on that point. But not sure on Khan. What, in his response, was buffoonery, given his job? I don't hold any particular opinion on Khan, I don't live in London. It just seems reasonable that the mayor of London, with its 8.5 million people, should argue for a place at the negotiating table? It'd be remiss of him not to do this, surely? Whether he gets it is another thing, but I don't see the problem.

Anyway, it's very much a side issue, so l'll leave it there.

Yes, I've seen that, but to repeat, when did Farage decide what happened to Government money? I don't for one minute think £350m will be spent on the NHS (Anyone who did is deluded), but it will certainly go back into the pot.

The FTSE has recovered pretty well and is at similar levels to the start of the week. It will be interesting to see what happens next week.

Did you read the article?? £350m isn't even the correct figure as we get/got rebates and money for agriculture and regional edevlopment.

In fact, the independent and respected Institute for Fiscal Studies has said the net effect of leaving the EU would be for a £36 billion black hole in the public finances to open up during the spending period as a result of lower growth and tax revenue.

I was handling all this news quite well. Not getting angry with it as it was the choice of the majority. TV this morning seemed to have decent coverage, no MP or campaigner from Leave gloating (except for Nige) so all good.

Started to get a bit annoyed when 2 people were asked "So how do leave, whats the timetable" an the answer was basically a "Well we will find out as we start to look into it" Hold on, shouldn't that have been something to have ready to go with?? Then Midlands today did get my angry when speaking to a woman in Stoke on why she voted leave " Well, its all the immigrants isn't it. Coming over here all getting 4 bedroom house and everything else on a plate. had enough they shouldn't be coming here"
$#@! off, just $#@! off.

UKIP took 4m votes at the last election for this reason though. they got zero representation for it but the idea that, rightly or wrongly, as an issue it was going away was cloudcookooland. cameron's strategy for the issue was completely flawed, and was no doubt seen by the eurosceptics in his party as an opportunity. problem they have is they have to deliver now.

it's not a surprise at all. the number of contacts i see posting british first crap on facebook - normal everyday people - is unreal. my best mate voted leave and when asked why, he said it's because he's a bit racist. believe me, he doesn't mean anyone harm, but the migrant crisis of course has come at a convenient time for the growth of these nationalistic tendencies.

If I may intercede. Can I draw your attention to the post earlier from THM where he referred to Cameron's nasty fear campaign (I paraphrase THM but I think that was the gist. I am sure he can tidy the quote a little if needs be).

There's an answer. Cameron, for better or quite clearly for worse, has been seen as the face of remain. Without a very strong message from Jeremy Corbyn that was spectacularly aligned to Cameron on this point and this point alone, you are going to struggle to make Labour voters want to vote on the same side as a man who is political anathema to them.

Corbyn really needed to engage that electorate to come out en bloc as labour voters and follow the line he wanted. And he didn't put enough hard yards in to get it at all. And the UKIP performance in those areas a year ago should have been the warning that this could happen.

Corbyn never supported this EU, he supported an EU that is fine on paper, but it was never going to happen. The EU that he hates is the one we have got, run by banks and for the rich. He told us to support this one and maybe we could change it. Well it will change now, instead of about half the EU workers moving to the UK to work, they will nearly all have to go to Germany. This will cause huge problems for the German infrastructure. In the end German people will vote to come out too. They will defy the banks and stockmarkets. There will be a domino effect. I believe the EU is finished as it is. People want a voice about their future, not some unelected bureaucrat, telling people what to do.

i'm sure nobody did, but as farage didn't suggest it, don't you think whoever did should be made to admit it isn't going to happen?

Okay then - so if it won't be spent on the NHS why the fuck was that plastered all over the Leave battle bus for the campaign. It was a filthy despicable lie to con the electorate. And they should be fucking ashamed.

What price will we have to pay for keeping the free market of the EU having decided to leave? My guess would be at least our current net contribution. That would leave fuck all left to go back into the pot even if there was no reduction in the size of UK economy.

I know it's not, but it is £350m to spend how we like and are not told how to spend some of it.

The £55m a week to farmers should be staged out over a period of time.

Isnt the figure actually £90 million (after rebates etc) and we get around £40 million back and told where its to be spent?
Im sure i saw a leave politician actually agree with a remain one over this a few weeks ago.

Politicians lying, shock horror.

We're not "told how to spend it". Our democratically elected politicians negotiate with democratically elected politicians of other nations to work out how the money that has been put into the collective pot should be spent.

Not all leave voters (by any stretch) are racists, but all racists are leave voters.

We have one vote out of twenty eight?
