REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Not about party politics for the people who voted, very much about party politics for the people at the top of the Tory party.

It is now but that was not what Jolemai questioned. Or indeed had said in a number of posts before.

I'm just listening to Gove and Boris and they are both individuals of questionable quality at best. I think there will be a different leader to those 2.

On another note, I'd expect there will be a cross-party renegotiation team for the removal of law and trade treaties as we surely can't leave it to just the Tory's can we?

Then that would be as stupid a thing to do as I've ever seen. Cameron is clearly left of what will become leader and what would changing Cameron achieve.

I also think it is incredibly short sighted if you think it is about party politics.

I wouldn't say party politics but I think a lot of people I've spoken to my sort of age, old school friends and such, seem to have misplaced the blame for a lot of things and seem to believe everything they don't like at the moment is down to immigrants or the EU, rather than decisions made by the UK government, so that's lead them to vote out thinking that when Britain stands alone all the evils will be cleared, whereas really a lot of what's annoying them will still remain as it's bought about by our own government.

Still, I'm looking forward to the bonfire of the regulations that have been holding back my business. Like um... um... Hang on, it'll come to me... give me a sec...

Can I at least summarily sack the pregnant lady who keeps having to go to the loo?

Johnny, it will be negotiated by our "unelected officials" and only fronted by the politicians!!

A moment of reflection for me. I know I have different views to a majority on here, but I would like to give praise and respect to all the posters of thls forum, for not using the terrible killing of Joe Cox, for political gain.

We have had bickering and close to the line personal insults thrown back and forward, but when it really mattered, this forum can hold it's head up high, for how it dealt, wlith the death of a young woman and mother, who came from a humble upbringing, but got so far in her life, despite her humble background and was slaughtered in her prime.

To all the posters on this forum, you can hold your heads up high.

Respect.

On the last point - you'd hope not. Surely no-one can agree to the government of the day just deciding on the laws without some sort of democratic oversight.

the thing that's really worrying for me personally is that it's fine to talk about long term gains but as far as the short term's concerned it seems sort of desperate. If the economy's taking a hit is that gonna make it harder to get into a job?

I think he wanted to stand on the side of leave.....hence his luke warm stance on remain. He put aside his own views to carry the big majority of his own Party. I think he is closer to what Labour voters want and a million miles away from what Labour MP's want.

Aye - agreed.

The problem is those labour voters have very clearly gone against his stance and the parliamentary party are going to crucify him for it.

Scots ready to go for another chance of leaving the UK.

If you had a large chunk of the value of your company wiped out you might find it less economically viable to employ new starters. However, that will not be the case for all businesses.

Might be a good time to get into Health Travel Insurance as we can all tear up our EHIC cards in two and a bit years. Where there is huge upheaval there are always opportunities there as well.

She must be very confident then. She is more moderate than Salmond so I thought it might take some time before she pushed this button. Immediate action suggests she thinks she is going to get an absolute landslide.

In my opinion, within a few months Teresa May and Andy Burnham will be the leaders of the Conservative and Labour parties. I also think that there will be a general election within a year, the Go ernments small majority will now come under severe pressure.

There is no majority any more.

The Conservative Party is completely split on this and no amount of nice words is likely to change that. The Remain side will give a Brexit leader a shoeing, and Cameron is a lame duck all the way to the Conservative conference.

Markets, whilst down, don't appear to be showing the apocalypse promised. London just over 5% down (no worse than we have had for other 'crises') - some sectors hit harder than others i.e. Banks as would be expected.

Gold prices up - again expected.

Sterling value hit harder, but seem to be recovering a little.

As to Nicola Sturgeon & another referendum am surprised she has come out this early - immediate responses don't always make for good policy (though she may feel that her best chance of a win is to go early in case it all settles down & her electorate lose their anger)

But you would have to crystallise that loss to make it permanent. There will be a recovery of sorts and an evening out of spikes. It will take time.

Still a very stark point though

Yet the banks will have put a fair whack on their profit line.
