Refereeing question

Apparently he sent the video himself to mates whilst at the Euros, who've now sold him out. What a dick.

If he were a celebrity now would be the time to wrestle the story back, claim addiction and go into rehab. I doubt he has the agent or money to sort that though.

The utter naivety is astounding.

It also opens the door to bad actors using this kind of material as blackmail and thus exploitation / influence of officials.

That’s what I saw @Del Woppio
Pretty serious allegations to make by the lad on Twitter, rather than a newspaper with the fallback of a legal team behind you.

Interesting book choice along with the use of a US Dollar note?

Yes it is. The other problem is that he can never referee a Liverpool game again, or indeed one of their table rivals because he will be fending off bias claims whatever he does.

All these allegations probably answer my question, but I presume referees don’t get routinely drugs tested?

Don't think coke stays in your system very long at all, so if it's "routine" it's easy to get round, maybe not if "random"

He should be finished. He's supposed to be a 'role model'. Should be investigated by the police.
Should be charged and go to court

What I really dislike with this, and similar stories over the years, is the drip feed of stories.

Whoever has released this stuff has done what they intended, it needs to stop now.

I don't like him as a ref, he's a poor official imo, but there's a human being behind the story.

Without being flippant, how many football fans last weekend took a line of coke and called an opposition manager/player a cunt? Yes, he's in a position where he shouldn't be doing these things, but the aim of the person releasing stuff has been done, it's time for it to stop.

Nah.
I want to know how he's been funding his habit. If any other referees knew about it. If they were involved. Who covered it up. If there was potential for blackmail/match fixing.
It's a great story.

If there's actual evidence of corruption, then absolutely it should be investigated. This is character assination.

As for 'funding his habit' - you do know how much Premier League referees earn don't you?

Very much depends on what testing is carried out, urine and blood test can pick consumption from weeks previous. Saliva is a lot less. Also depends on how habitual the person using it is too the more you use the longer it takes to get out the system.

I was with you until the last sentence.

The exploitation angle is huge. Especially considering how poorly refs are paid compared to everyone else at that level.
