QuestionTime With PPB, Instead of Sir Robin Day .

What age were you when you had your first beers ?
I used to sneak a drink of my dad or uncle's beer at Boxing day family gatherings when I was young, but from around the age of 10-11 until I was about 16 I spent every Saturday night in the pub with my dad and his mate playing pool. So I'd sampled the delights of Marstons Pedigree at an early age on the sly.

Can you remember the first concert/gig you ever went to ? Who did you see, where did you see them and what was the year ?
Suede on their Coming Up tour (late 96 early 97 I think), which annoyingly was just after Bernard Butler had left the band. It was at Wolves Civic as one of my best mates went to Uni/College in Dudley, so I used to go over regularly on weekends and we'd all go out in Walsall or Wolves.

I used to be allowed to drink cider at home when I was 14/15. I first started going to the pub when I was 16. We'd go to the New Inn by the market in Wolverhampton every Friday night, my parents would let me go as long as I got the last bus home. It was the pub of choice for under age drinkers, I looked young at 16 so they weren't too fussed who they were serving!

Can you remember the first concert/gig you ever went to ? Who did you see, where did you see them and what was the year ?

Terrorvision, Wolverhampton Civic Hall, 1994.

We used to go to the New Inn on a Thursday night when we were about 15/16. Drank pints of Mild (cause it was cheap) and played cards. Old before our time!

My first gig was a band called Jellyfish at the Wulfrun in 1993. I only went because my older sister took me. Had never heard of them before or since. The singer played drums, which was weird.

Hey if it's good enough for The Eagles...

What age were you when you had your first beers ?

I was actually quite a late developer when it came to drinking - I have never drank just to get drunk and wasn't ever swayed by peer pressure in that regard (same with smoking - I've never ever tried a cigarette). I was probably about 16 and dad let me try some of his ales. I liked the taste so my folks had no problem with me enjoying the occasional pint with them.

I went to see Eric Clapton at the NIA in early 1992, I would have been 11 at the time. Dad and brother really wanted to go and I was really getting into blues music at the time so they got me a ticket as well. Fabulous gig - I saw him again in 2001 which is still fresh in my mind.

I was honestly 18. I've always looked younger than I am, so it was never worth the hassle of trying before I was 18. I didn't pay adult fare on a bus until I was 25!
Can you remember the first concert/gig you ever went to ? Who did you see, where did you see them and what was the year ?
Yes. Dio, Lock Up The Wolves tour, Aston Villa Arena, 30/5/90. Fun Fact, I still have almost all of my concert tickets collected in a few photo albums...

I was at that Terrorvision gig.
Whatever happened to Lupine Howl? We'd both been to loads of the same gigs!

What age were you when you had your first beers ?

I lived in a pub from the age of 11 to 20 so can't remember for sure. I was drinking lager shandies from about 12 (in small quantities) and gradually knocked the lemonade on the head and tried other stuff. in those days you were tied to the brewery so all what was on offer was a choice of Black Label, Tennants, Bass or M&B Mild. My dad used to let me and my mates drink in there from about 16 onwards which was a good move for me as I looked about 12 until I was 18!

Can you remember the first concert/gig you ever went to ? Who did you see, where did you see them and what was the year ? Squeeze at the NEC in about 1989 with the Happy Mondays at the same venue next, the following year.

What age were you when you had your first beers ?
Probably around 15, being allowed a small amount of booze at Christmas. And then started going to pubs at 6th Form College.

Like it was yesterday. Iron Maiden, World Slavery Tour, 5th October 1984. Southampton Gaumont (now the Mayflower). Supported by Pete Way (UFO) and his then new band Waysted. Life changing stuff.

I knew some under age drinker on here would remember the New Inn! I only used to drink the Mild when I didn't have enough cash for a pint of Harp (yuck!). The only people that were ever in there were under age drinkers or old men playing dominoes. You and your mates must have been a bridge between the two! If you ever ventured in on a Friday in 1996 or 97 I'd have probably also been in there.

I was at that Terrorvision gig.

If you also saw them in 1995 I'd have been at that gig as well. Between 1994-1996 it seemed like I went to most rock/indie gigs at the Civic/Wulfrun so there's a high chance of us going to a lot of similar gigs (I remember you saying you were at Reef in 1995 which I also went to - I think it only cost about £7!)

I think this is one of PPB's better threads !! It's interesting ( and sometimes funny ) reading all the answers to the serious ones, and the not so serious !

It's really weird, as questions just pop into me head at the oddest of moments . Not sure, but I dont think I have repeated a question yet :icon_lol: About 15 more coming later after ive scrambled me eggs :)

What age were you when you had your first beers ?
14 or 15 when I had a Hoffmeister at Christmas (amazed I drank again after that)

Can you remember the first concert/gig you ever went to ? Who did you see, where did you see them and what was the year ?
Pulp. NEC - Year might have been 96 (it was 2 days after Jarvis Cocker waved his arse at Michael Jackson at the Brit Awards)

This thread is ace. I love random questions as it's a fun way to learn some interesting things about people.

A pint of Harp! I remember that - that was for the weekend, not a school night :D

I think the New Inn was the only pub I've been in that served Barley Wine. Gives you a good idea of what the place was like!

Now that this thread has finally established itself & people are enjoying it - I will claim the credit for the initial suggestion to PPB

Have you ever got up really early to go and queue for something in a sale ? My old man took us in the middle of the night to queue up for the 1979 FA Cup semi final tickets vs Arsenal. Lately i've took MRs Grouse to the Next Sale.
