QuestionTime With PPB, Instead of Sir Robin Day .

I've no issue with the royal family, just got no interest in them or what they got to say, however they (along with religion) seem to give a proportion of the population a little bit of comfort so let em get on with it
That's where I sit on the matter.

If the Royal family fucked off, Nicholas Witchell would have nothing to suck up to. So they can get in the sea for me.

Not a criticism of you but you do seem to be a very angry young man about some pretty mundane stuff sometimes

Wish I had watched it now, seems she went all John Sitton

the ropyals bring a fuck of a lot of money to the UK, and i think they are slowly coming into the 21st century, but frankly if they started to go back to the 0ld days...never happen...they would be off in a jiffy with my vote.
they are a fantastic tourist attraction, and frankly while i love that, not much else, wether they like it or not.

No they aren't, their estate is. Nobody comes to London to see the Queen.

Actually a lot of people stand outside Buck Palace in the hope of seeing her. Not sure what they expect her do if she does make eye contact mind

The royal weddings and pictures in various tabloids would disprove this. Some folks do care about the Royal family. (Personally I'm ambivalent to them).

That's once maybe twice in a generation and then the vast majority of people are British.

To Kenny's point that only holds water if the same people wouldn't come if they weren't still in place. I can't prove it either way, but Paris doesn't seem to have an issue with people visiting its landmarks.

Polls suggest the majority of the population are in favour of keeping them so although I'm a republican I do respect the majority view, just think the tourism income part is overplayed

You don't think British people travel to see the queen?

I've seen the French argument used before but it's all whataboutery as the last time we didn't have a monarch we had a nutjob in charge and it was nearly 400 years ago.

Read that as 'I'm a publican' which made me think "that Tony Towner is not the arse that he comes over as"

I think British people travel to London to see the sights of which Buckingham Palace is one of them. Do I think less British people would visit London if the Queen didn't live in the Palace? Apart from the exceptional occasion like a jubilee or wedding of someone who will eventually be king or queen then no I don't.

The likes of Buckingham Palace are tourist attractions because of the history of the Royal Family. You get rid of the royals, and it would soon enough become just another building

I'm not sure I agree, but assuming I do, does that mean less foreign visitors come to London? Therefore the assumption is that there entire trip was based on a visit to the Palace rather than for that as well as the myriad of other attractions the city has to offer. That's my issue and I don't accept that premise

Obviously the Royal Family isn't the only driver of tourism to London/England, but I do feel they play a big part.

I'm not a massive royalist, but do feel they are a benefit to the UK - there is a lot of projects they have launched that wouldn't have been as successful if not for them, the Invictus Games springs to mind for one.

Duke of Edinburgh award scheme as well
