Premier League: Relegation Race

Kilman's problem is that he's shaped like a pear and he'd struggle in a race with me, and I'm nearly for...er, in my 30s.

Nothing can fix either of those things. Massive respect for his journey but personally I'd never pick him again unless we had to and I'd bin him off in the summer.
I think that's a little harsh - he's a decent as a squad option to cover LCB, but god please never LB again.

Agree with Tredman - I like Kilman a lot and he has plenty of scope to improve. He doesn't look like someone who has only played 17 PL games across three seasons.

If we're moving to a back four (and I think we are, we're making enough noises about it anyway) then he doesn't really fit anywhere. He'll make a career and seems a good guy. It just isn't here.

You can't help how you're naturally built of course but I don't think I've ever seen a professional athlete look like he does. He's the slimmest man in the world who always looks too heavy.

So it's Saiss if fit or back to Hoever on the right and Semedo on the left if we stay with a 4. The more tactically minded will know this. I assume when Pulis played a back 4 of just centre halves they all sat deep to avoid the type of problems Kilman had with Saka?

Pulisball is a different sport entirely. We still want our full backs to play football whether they're on the wrong side or not a full back at all.

Essentially though yes, beyond set pieces they wouldn't go near the halfway line let alone going past it. He'd also quite often have the winger in front more or less playing as a full back.

To be fair, of all of them, you see Podence coming back the most of all the attackers, but then his 'free reign' should allow him to do that, the angriest I've been in a while was in the Palace game when Traore was stood still and Donck had to run past him to help Semedo out !
Why can't anyone on this forum spell 'rein'? If we've got people sitting on thrones all over the pitch, we're never going to beat anyone.

Never has the phrase 'Tom Hark, well known member' been more apt ;)

Well I did doubt myself but cba to look it up. Now I know!

And for goodness sake stop trying to dribble out of four players on the edge of our penalty box. You ALWAYS lose it and it is frustrating.

I used to coach a lad that did this and it took me 4 years to get him to stop doing it! and to realise he was always the fastest player on the pitch the best thing to do was to control the ball, play it immediately and then burst into space meaning he'd get on the ball in more space and further down the pitch. I am constantly reminded of that kid when I watch Traore to the extent I find myself shouting 'bounce and go, bounce and go!' which is how I used to try to remind him doing the matches.

I understand it a little since 'bounce and go' only works if the person you bounce to passes forwards..

Traore was equally as infuriating last night - and it was his fellow teammates getting just as infuriated (heard Coady shout "come on Adama!" at one stage). He just loses the ball, sighs and doesn't bother to get it back. I think his twin brother must have played the Palace game and the first half of last night, as he was different in second - pressing, harassing, taking his man on.

No, it wasn't his twin brother it was him, so can't he get fair acknowledgement for a decent second half the same way he got fair criticism for a poor first half, rather than a backhanded compliment?

It was tongue in cheek mate. I give him all the credit for how he performed in the second half: I want to see more of that from him.

Yes, I re-read your post after I responded and think I misread your intention, apologies.

No problem at all! I have no issues with Traore: I find him infuriating because when he's good he's brilliant, but when he's bad he is woeful, and sometimes those "bad" moments often lead to us conceding. As I said above, a fair few teams and players are absolutely terrified of him, and what he did in the second half last night is what he needs to do more of, especially now we have WJ.

I agree he's been largely poor this season. At least he has those brilliant moments though (both goals in the Emirates game for instance), but they can easily be overlooked on here sometimes as I think some people are done with him, which I feel is a little harsh considering the amount of other players who've stunk the place out this season.

In terms of fairness and equivalence, Semedo’s bad moments lead to us conceding too (yesterday's goal was a total abomination that would be brought up for the next ten years if it was Doc) , yet you still see massive rose tinted glasses regarding his performances.

The issue is that is his job, the same as its Nunos responsibility to organise the team, It is Traores job to create chances for himself and others, that is all he has no other purpose in the game, on form he is easily the most electric player in the game, but 99% of the time he is easily the most frustrating, lacklustre inactive players in the ground (and Im including subs there, and they're sat down :) )
