Pre-season friendly thread

Vardy is going to fillet us, the first day of the season 🙈

damn, almost thought Kilman would score there..good corner from MGW

I thought Mosquera wasn't supposed to be good with his feet
he can be a little loose but technically he's fine. He's jsut a bit ungainly sometimes which I think people will confuse with being not as good on the ball

I agree with you, but people used to say that about Mamadou Sakho and he was objectively shite on the ball :D

He's clearly been the major plus of the trip. Was saying to Kenny the other day, I can see him going how we went with Vinagre when he first signed. We didn't even give him a squad number to start with, he was always down to play for the 23s for a few months. Then very quickly we just thought "fuck it, put him in now".

Obviously I hope the long term works out better than that did...

Sa
Semedo Yerson Coady Boly RAN
Neves Moutinho
Trincao Raul Traore

My team for Leicester, as the squad currently stands.

Obviously Bruno seems dead set on going with his 4-4-2, so Vardy & co will have a field day, if the first half was anything to go on today.

that would be my team too as it stands

I've enjoyed both games tbh. Bruno will have learned a hell of a lot in terms of who can do what, and will be closer to decisions on what he needs to adapt, who can be coached, and needs gone. I do like the intensity without the ball, and whilst pressing is never going to be without its dangers, I think with time and recruitment it'll be of net benefit.

On the ball we make some good patterns, and you can kind of see what they're being asked to do - again it'll take a bit of time, like any transition.

These games aren't the time to judge his work or his ability, that will come.

Spot on, Del. These matches are about one thing: Lage learning the players and vice versa.

Maybe that's two things. Whatever.

Mosquera looks a fantastic signing for the price, there'll be rocky moments as he's got so little football under his belt but everything looks to be there. Otherwise...well, we look better with a back three, don't we. Every time we play a back four we look like conceding every time we lose the ball. No different to last season then.

It's odd from the club. If they've hired a coach with an overarching will to play a back four then that needs sorting first and foremost in terms of personnel (not just defenders, midfielders too), until then we know we can't do it. So it's either a big push - and how that's funded will probably mean one or two of our best players going - or we're going to end up with a bit of a fudge and a lot of defensive issues.

First half was absolutely shocking, terrible in possession, zero threat, 0 shots, we looked like conceding miles before we did and two complete rank amateur goals to give away. We were better second half although quite a few of those on the pitch won't kick a ball in the Premier League this season.

I do find it a bit worrying, I don't know if they've grossly underestimated the scale of what needs doing here. If we're just going to revert back to our comfort blanket then you might ask what the point of the last three months has been.

Equally, we can't get out from underneath that comfort blanket if we're scared of our own shadow.

For me it's simple. You knew he was, you know how he likes to play. You give him the tools to do his job or it'll end in pain, unless he compromises.

As DW says we simply don’t have the players to play 4-4-2 in the PL. We’re stuck between a rock and a hard place currently.
Squad would need a huge overhaul for this to work that’s not going to happen unfortunately.

Tbf, 4 years ago we didn't have the players to play 343, so we made some out of what we had, and bought the rest.

We were up against Gary Madine and Jordan Hugill then though, not Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane. You can afford to work on the fly more in the Championship.

Nuno was backed well tho bought in Neves, Boly , Douglas, Jota to help us evolve.

Look it’s pre season so no need for concern, will say if this current group of players start the season in a 4-4-2 I’d expect us to be a very enjoyable side to play against.
