O'Neil In, Out and Shaking it all about

My lad was living and working in Germany and was over for Christmas, Ipswich was the only game he went to that season and gave up one of his precious days over here, he was mot impressed.

Still happy that I got to applaud biggus mickus for what he gave to the club.

So many aspects of this video were clear to a few of us at the start of the season our fullbacks not really being fullbacks, that our squad just doesnt suit our "gameplan" and formation, but here it is in a well structured video of our season so far. Worth a watch.

There are simple enough answers out there. I completely reject the theory that Semedo and Ait-Nouri can't play as conventional full backs because they can and have done. They're not being asked to do that which is another question. I also continue to reject the trope of "we can't play a back four" because entirely different players under a different manager probably couldn't six fucking years ago.

It's the midfield. How and why are we in our situation where you have three very good central midfielders who you would nominally qualify as "defensive" and yet you can just walk through us. It's insane.

Then there's added randomness with Bellegarde having no position but starting nearly every game, Cunha doing whatever he wants and Hwang being an empty shirt whenever he appears (it's not even that he's just been crap, which he has been, but I don't even know where he's supposed to be playing).

A mess of the head coach's own making.

Oh and them not furnishing him with alternatives at centre half and left back, but that is a club failing.

What a load of shit. The guy is masquerading his opinion as fact and using hand picked data to try and supplement his snake oil.

These pseudo data cunts have nothing to say, know little shit football and should be consigned to the bin.

People believing this shit should know better.

Some of the stuff he comes out with isn’t rocket science and is obvious to everyone except the manager…

Semedo is shit in aerial duels, Dawson is slow, Toti just isn’t good enough full stop etc.

He right in saying we don’t know what we want to be. We’re trying to play possession football but the two CBs aren’t good enough on the ball and neither keeper are. We’ve pushed Lemina and Gomes higher and their games arent good enough/ or about receiving the ball in those positions. They are combative midfielders who clearly aren’t being that combative this year.

The FBs drifting into stupid positions is clearly instruction! Unless they are going back to U9s level chasing the ball and set peices are clearly a farce which isn’t helping either.

Yes there’s been some individual drop offs. Gomes and Lemina have been awful but as above they’ve been taken out of positions where they were effective and asked to do things they aren’t as good at and were not being saved by their “energy” like we were a lot last year. Hwang an obvious drop but expected and also being asked to play more in build up, Bellegarde for some reason getting game time and as our third most attacking player.

There’s some simple fixes which will make a difference getting more out of what we got. But clearly we are a bit stuck having to play Toti but also signing Andre when it affects the other two’s game and pushes us into trying to be a possession team when we’ve not got enough players particularly capable whilst taking away that countering threat we had. Just a mess really at all levels.

He's been a shit full back, yes (out of character too as he's been largely good for three years). You wouldn't say 'he isn't a right back' any more than you would say Leon Clarke 'isn't a striker' when he was on a run of 1 goal in 20 games. He's a bad striker. But a striker nonetheless.

He isn't a right wing back.

How many goals and assists does he have in what, close on 150 PL games?
His best form for us has been as a RWB.

The boomers go on about the eye test, well it's never been more evident with Semedo.

His form last season was generally very good, and he was essentially a right back in a back four with the way we defended for most of the year.

If we’re playing with out and out wing backs he’ll be solid, help us retain the ball but we are creating very little
