O'Neil Confirmed

We really didn’t create loads of high quality chances.

I’m amazed at how accepting people are of this situation though. I don’t get it at all. I very much hope I’m proved wrong in terms of his quality as a coach but it’s ridiculous that we put ourselves in this place.

I'm amazed on the opposite end that people actually have any kind of expectations?

Everything we've done for the last 2 years shows what the goals are for this team, to finish 17th or above.

It's why, as long as we are entertaining which I thought we were yesterday im pretty happy.

Wank keeping but it neither even registered as shots on target. At least on opta as the bookies didn't payout.
The bookies got that wrong then. The flapping from a cross (not a shot) certainly led to a shot on target, from which Sa made a very good save (albeit only to correct a mistake of his own making).

Not wrong, they are just wankers. Opta only counts a shot on target if the last man stops it, it was counted as a blocked shot.

What are people accepting of?

Looking at the predicted scores for yesterday, very few expected as much as a point, a fair few expected a battering. What we got was a really good 1st half performance that should have seen us 2-0 up, then who knows.

As it was, it was 1-0 at HT and we couldn't cope in the 2nd half for a fair few reasons. The result was the same as many predicted, but the performance was surely better than many expected? So I guess that's why some fans aren't as critical as others?

I’m amazed that people are accepting of us being shit, employing shit and getting relegated.

These players, collectively, are easily good enough to stay up - much as Lop showed last season.

Just saying ‘what do you expect’ and shrugging your shoulders is very defeatist. We expect this because we employed a no-mark. We could have done much better with a very similar wage. As it is we either have to overpay, as last season, or take your attitude and meekly accept relegation.

You don't get relegated when you finish 17th mate.

I’m not talking about the game yesterday. I mean the situation we’ve put ourselves in, very self inflicted to go from a good coach to one who to me just appears out of his depth. People seem quite defensive over any criticism of him.

Bit of a contradiction here, but you're right, if we took on Liverpool yesterday with Lop or Nuno as manager i'd have had far greater expectations and been more pissed off at the outcome, because we have GoN in charge and we are now having transfer windows where we have to sell significantly to buy my expectations are much lower.

Apathy, realism, call it what you will.

We won’t, but even if we did I’m not overly fond of spending a grand a year to watch Gary No Mark waste decent players.

That's your prerogative.

Similarly I had no interest in watching us play like we did last year, we might have got result but it was awful to watch. So much so I didn't bother with the last 4/5 games.

There's probably a happy medium somewhere in between the two managers but if we aren't going to be troubling the top 6, I'd rather be entertained than be bored to death.

Its not entertaining watching 11 players camp in their own half and periodically spannering it out to the other half

I wouldn't say we were dull under Lopetegui at home, especially given we had the equivalent of a rusty spoon up front to fight with.

We were horrific under Lage.

Agreed, we saw that enough last year. I enjoyed the Man United & Liverpool games this year infinitely more than I did the palace & villa home games. We won the latter but they were absolute stinkers.

Such a weird hill to die on - losing miserably, as yesterday, then getting relegated is better than winning matches.

Very odd selection of games too, you could, for example, compare yesterday's Liverpool game with the same match from last season. I know which I preferred.

Because they were the games that made me not want to watch anymore. I could use more examples, how about when O'Neil gave Lopetegui a lesson as Bournemouth beat us 1-0?

It was a pretty entertaining game but conceding 4 against relegated Leeds probably constitutes losing miserably?

Lopetegui masterminded some decent performances, Liverpool, Chelsea at home come to mind but he served up just as many absolute stinkers.

You think we signed Cunha for 40-odd million and employed Lopetegui to finish 17th or above?

Of course, we were bottom of the table and he insisted on signing Cunha.

You think we suddenly decided a few weeks ago? The Lage appointment, when he had us in a half decent position near Christmas (totally unsustainable as we saw) and was asking for signings to push on he got nothing show this is not a recent thing.

They are happy as long as we stay in the PL.

You said everything we've done for two years has been to finish 17th or above... so why make an expensive, ambitious managerial appointment like JL?

If you didn't watch the last 4/5 games from last season, why are you always banging on about the Brighton and Arsenal defeats?
