O'Neil aka GONe

He’s not good enough for the championship - it’s a tough league with some decent managers.
We know that, not sure those who are making the decisions do.

Read the comments. This is a wider view of how Gaz is perceived within the football fanbase. Almost every one of them is in support of him.

Think I’d be wasting my time commenting on there “what about the 15 goals conceded from set pieces, Gary?”
People even within our own fanbase think you have to pick a side. I could give you a long list of everything Fosun have done to ruin this football club in the last 4 and a half years. I despise Jeff Shi. None of that means he's good enough. Some seem to see criticism of him as validation of the ownership, it isn't.

If you believe absolutely everything is the fault of others and he's completely faultless blame wise then surely you can understand the basic mathematics of where we are at and the fact that in the last 10 days we've lost 3 times by a collective score of 10-3. He's taking us down, surely it's worth seeing if someone else won't?

As for those that aren't Wolves fans, it's all very well being pious and patronising when it's not your club circling down the drain

I just can’t see how anyone who actually watches our games can support him. We all know he’s been dealt a poor hand but he’s played that hand really badly. We concede at least two most games and rely on Cunha for the majority of our attacking output. He plays Bellegarde who is the most beige PL footballer in our history, shoehornes Lemina into every team and he undermines players like Cunha and Larsen. He has no redeeming features from both a tactical and man management perspective.

But can they do it on a cold and wet Tuesday night in Millwall, like our hardened and tough English managers 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿?
I’m sad enough to research that Stoke City are the only team that really fits into the Que Sera, Sera song for next season.

This.

I’m still being told by my mates “you’ll stay up”.

This is what happens when you form an opinion based on the MOTD highlights. Sit and watch every minute of every game and your opinion will quickly change.

It’s obviously not helped by the narrative Gaz spins in the press conferences (I don’t blame him for this as I think most of us would do the same), or the easy ride he gets within the media circles. I’m yet to see anyone of any significance go in really hard on him. Gary Neville is probably the one who came closest but that was weeks ago when we were on Sky & we’ve got worse since!

I’m genuinely sick to the back teeth with it all. The owners, Matt Hobbs, a lot of the players, the captain, the manager, the coaching staff. How the fuck have we gone from Nuno & that squad to this. And they keep finding ways to make it worse!

I’ll add to that, all the talk. I want them to stop.

“The lads are in there and know what they need to do”

“We’ve worked really hard on the training pitch all week, no one is working harder than me”

“We’re ready to fight”

“We support the manager, we’re gonna have some frank talks”

boys. Just stfu already*. Go out there and do your talking on the pitch. I don’t want to hear your waffle all the way through the week and then you cross the white line and concede 4 whilst looking like you’ve never met each other. Just get on with it & stfu.

* I know they have certain obligations they have to adhere to.

Gary has a lot he can say is mitigation for poor performance - and there is an awful lot wrong with the squad and club. But even given all of the problems he can do nothing about, we're considerably underachieving. He's not had a great hand, but it's not a relegation hand. Sure, you can argue that it's a season of looking over your shoulder, but you should never be fewer than 4 points clear of the bottom three with the talent we have.

It's down to experience for me. Anybody that's managed for more than 5 minutes will be able to come up with a team structure that's not porous out of our defenders and central midfielders in a 4231. There's plenty of experience and positional discipline in the individuals

Drop the line back 10 yards. Tell Semedo not to cross the halfway line. Have Andre fill in for RAN when he goes forward, and Joao screening. That's all he'd need to do, and none of the bullshit in the background is preventing him doing that - it's a failing, and presumably ideological. If we stay up it will be despite Gary O'Neil, not because of him. It's looking increasingly likely that he's keeping his job, because no other cunt wants to come and work for Shi and Hobbs - but unfortunately I've got no faith in sorting that out either, so it's only just a matter of what comes first - the takeover or relegation

I think the issue is not so much relegation (though this is bad enough) but the fact that it is entirely self-inflicted, we can all see it happening in slow motion but the powers that be are just ignoring it whilst trying to fob us off with bullshit. They are taking a lot of money out of the fanbase but not giving us much back in return. For several windows we have listened to bullshit excuses as to why signing players is so difficult even though other teams seem to do so with no problems, now we are being fed the same rubbish about finding a new manager that is better than the novice we employed, which let's face it, no other team at this level would have employed.

We were told last year that we had to behave as if we were a newly promoted side - what kind of nonsense is that? No other clubs seem to run in this way. All whilst rocketing our ticket prices as they 'benchmark' against other, far more ambitious clubs.

We have a Head Coach with a very limited/poor CV who has overseen a run of just 3 wins in 25 games, 2 of which were against a side now relegated and another side that will be relegated. We were told that it was because he had no strikers, he now has a very decent Norwegian no.9 not to mention a Brazilian no.10. Then we were told he needed a pre-season with the 'group' which he then wasted. Then we were told we had a tough start to the season, wait until the 'winnable' games - we get battered 4-0 by fucking Everton yet still they think he's the 'next big thing'??

We sit here below fucking Ipswich who were League One a couple of years back, we face them at home on Saturday not even confident that we will beat them. We have watched as sides have come up since us such as Forest, Bournemouth, Brentford and Fulham and they have left us behind even though their squads are not far superior to ours. For as much as O'Neil whines about how hard done by he is with players lost we still have a team out there of internationals from a range of different countries yet we sit 2nd from bottom getting battered by shit.

I came home from work last night in a foul mood, completely disheartened by the press releases that we were sticking with this bloke and giving him (more) time to turn this around (3 wins in 25 suggests he won't) and with each passing game that zero points are attained the target of safety becomes that bit more difficult. After the Everton humiliation where he turned his back on the fans as they chanted 'wanker, wanker, wanker' we all thought that was it, no coming back but there he was again doing his PC on Thursday and on the sidelines waving his arms manically on Monday night as he oversaw his 28th defeat in 53 games, we all assumed that was the end yet less than 24 hours later we are told that he is still the man.

People have had enough. When was the last time we had any good news from this club? For a few years now the news is downbeat, gloomy, depressing and whenever we think it won't get any worse it does. We are told that they have no interest in selling the club yet they clearly have no interest in growing it either. Its depressing, its upsetting. We all love our club and want to see us developing as a club after our longest stint yet in the Premier League, a period that began with the best side most of us had ever seen in old gold managed by the best manager we had witnessed, a man who was fully on board with the fans, the club, the city. We got to an FA Cup semi and qualified for Europe, those Europa nights were the best and proudest moments for us Wolves fans and we felt it was the beginning of something special. Since then we have seen it all dismantled before our very eyes and we all saw it coming.

I'm rambling now and going to get on with my work!

There are still people on social media defending the clown. Gaslit people don't know when they're being gaslit.

Ahem.

Also, nearly 200 pages here now... at least Gary can take solace in having the record for by far the longest sacking vigil thread this forum has ever seen (I assume).

About time someone started this.

He's out of his depth. We made a mistake by hiring him, correct it before it costs us our Premier League status. I'm not expecting anyone amazing to take over but at the the moment every training session he takes charge of increases our chances of being relegated.
15 months later...

That’s the thing isn’t it, it’s not that we want to keep O’Neil, it’s that we can’t find anyone willing to take the job. This is entirely self inflicted of course

If that list of managers is genuine, then what fucking planet are Hobbs/Shi living on to think that any of them would come to work under the current conditions at Wolves?!

I look forward to the end of January when the club tell us how hard they tried to sign a centre back but unfortunately none of Virgil Van Dijk, Ruden Dias or William Saliba were interested.

Pricks

Can you imagine what these real pros will have said in private about the interview process and how the future of the club and this position under Hobbs and Shi were presented? Desperate stuff. Back to the 90s Championship mid table norm. Grrrrrrr.

Something like.....

1. No presentation from Shi and Hobbs.
2. Interview beginning with... 'Tell us about yourself'.
3. Quick run through unread cv.
4. Thirty minutes prep time to produce a strategic plan with no data.
5. Last 5 minutes if you are lucky. Any questions?

I have actually been interviewed like that for senior leadership positions in education and I am wouldn't mind betting we currently operate at a similar level.

It’s fucked both ways. Even if we give Fosun the full benefit of doubt, the idea that a club being self-sustaining financially is enough to put off the likes of Moyes is a massive red flag for the long term health of the sport.
