Next Manager

Clubs can interview plenty of managers, how do you know who was close to being appointed and who wasn't?

For someone who fancies themselves as a bit of a Captain Nuance, you're making some pretty broad strokes with this odd, contrary position you've taken, mate
Tell me what is odd!?

I think we will balls up the next appointment after GON, how is that contrary?? Given recent events, surely thinking otherwise is the contrary view!

So, is it 'better than GON' or 'as capable as Lop'?

Cos there's a big spectrum in between
It may be a big spectrum, but in terms of how wide Hobbs spectrum is, who is cheap and who is available, the quantity of candidates is small and shit.

The difference between you and most of the forum is that your lack of faith in Fosun means you believe sticking with GON is the best option, most of us prefer the devil we don't know, as Fosun and Hobbs don't solely make shit decision... Just most of the time 😅

Again, you're presuming he's going to get back into his Summer 2023 recruitment mindset, when a lot has changed since then, mainly that his Summer 2023 mindset was a clusterfuck

Yes that sums it up, I don't understand why my view has generated such a volume of annoyed, patronising comments and ridicule. I don't see it as a contrary view at all, surely it's an understandable one.

I hope everyone else is right and we sack GON and i don't know, shock the world and appoint Klopp 3 days later, that would be fucking brilliant!

Summer 23 mindset was only 6 or 7 weeks ago! Not a great deal has changed other than GON hopefully starting to prove to him what we all knew originally, that he was a shit appointment!

That doesn't mean that he will think that Smith or Lampard or some other no mark that has to be British will also be shit.

It's a weird outlook imo, but as Deutsch said earlier it's consistent. You'll accept mediocrity or worse because there's a chance that the alternative will be inferior. It's such a timid stance, but each to their own as we are going round in circles

If you offered me O'Neill or Dean Smith I'd keep who we already have.
Hang on, you said this earlier. So you agree in principle.

I expect us to go for a Lampard or Smith type in the event of us sacking GON, it's not a "timid world view" it's a view that's borne from the awful decisions that have largely been made since we sacked Nuno.

It wasn't my view under Nuno in terms of our recruitment of players. But it is now because I don't trust the club to improve, I expect us to continue to decline because they make crap decisions.

Forget making Nuno the manager, make him the owner

It would surely lead him to question his methodology, or maybe others at the club (Jeff) rein him in a little.

Again, neither scenario means we get Nuno 2.0, but keeping someone out of their depth isn't tenable either.

As I've said before, much of this is moot anyway as I think we're stuck with him till Jan at the earliest

Well that was a fun read this morning 😂

I understand where EP is coming from. I *think* he's just saying there's no guarantee a replacement for GoN will be any better, given our list of targets when we initially offered him the role.

However, I'd be stunned, having seen the start we've made - if Matt Hobbs thought for a second "you know who I think we might actually need? Frank Lampard". Maybe we enquired about Potter before the season and were given a definite "not right now", and didn't have time to piss around so moved straight on. Football is a fast moving beast, and there's nothing to say someone like that might now be more open to coming in? To be clear, we have no idea and as PK says, GoN won't be sacked until January earliest, I'd imagine, so it's a moot point.

Gary O'Neil is shit. Dean Smith would be better. Unfortunately though I think he'll scrape enough points from somewhere to keep us 15-18th, never *quite* performing badly enough to justify an early sacking, even though we all know his tenure will measured in months rather than years.

I'm not so sure Hobbs would definitely 100% sack him, depending on where we were in the table. We could lose all 4 and still be just outside the bottom 3.

I just can't see it. I think we'll be on 4pts after 10 games and in the bottom 3.

He'll be sacked by the next international break.

If we lose our next four games (could easily happen) then he'd get sacked before the end of October, not January. We'd be on 4 points from 10 games.
I'd sack him today. I'm not sure I see Hobbs/Shi willingly admitting they've made a mistake that quickly, but I do agree that if we lost the next four (Man City/Villa/Bournemouth/Newcastle) they'd almost be forced in to doing something. I appreciate to someone normal, a discussion should already be taking place, but these clowns gave him a 3 year contract, ffs!

I also don't see us losing all those matches. Not because I trust the manager, but just because we have a few good players in the squad and they'd probably be able to get at least one win out of those matches whether GoN was stood on the sidelines flapping his arms around or not.

At the moment the only way you can see a promoted team winning a game and going above us is against one of the others, Luton play Burnley in their rearranged game on October 3rd

Is he? Didn't he just take his last 2 sides down, whilst GON kept Bournemouth up comfortably?

Norwich appointment was in November - they went down. (He then had a run of 3 wins in 13 in the Championship, and was sacked)

Leicester was with 8 games to go - they went down.

I recognise this is like arguing which is worse, cancer or aids.

If we lose the next 4, Jeff will come bursting back through the door to do the sacking and resume the control he has seemingly given up since last November. Hobbs won't have a say in the sacking or his replacement.
