Newcastle v Wolves (A) Part 1: Build Up

At the moment any selection and system is calculated guesswork unfortunately that includes the thoughts of Walter Zenga. To much choice.

Saiss needs to be involved soon. Purely because I'm already getting annoyed with how many people can't spell his name correctly. It's not exactly difficult, is it? Variations include:

Sais
Saise
Sisse
Sass
And my personal favourite - Siasa

That Wolves-news Facebook page has a lot to answer for.

We'll be playing her in midfield soon the way things are going:

Speaking of Facebook it reminded me that its 4 years since I was pictured with David Nugent after Wolves beat Leicester 2 1. A lots happened since!

OH i like Siasa...might use that from now on.
It sounds like a shit scandi pop act that had a dance #1 in the 90's

I'm not very good at predicting scores but I would suggest that we will be beaten on Saturday against Newcastle.

Obviously, I don't want that to happen, but what's important to me is how we play. I want us to play decent football and the team to come off the pitch at the end of the game thinking that there was nothing more they could have done.

Alright lads, Geordie in peace here,

Just curious about a few things;
How do you think Wolves are going to fare this season, what's your aims/expectations etc. ?
Who are the players we should pay special attention to?
What's the new manager like?
What do you reckon of Newcastle's transfer business?
Where do you reckon we'll end up?
Any of the lads travelling up this game going to stay for the Cup game?

Cheers for any replies

Going to this one (club wouldnt refund me for it after Tuesday lol) i just hope we play well and if we get beat soo be it but if we played like we did on Tuesday its going to be more the a 4 - 0 defeat.

I am going for a good performance against the best team in the league but we fall short 3 - 1 newcastle

My team
-----------Ikeme--------------
Iorfa--Batth--Stearman--CBJ
-------Price----Saiss---------
-------------Tex---------------
Costa----------------Cavaleiro
----------Bodvarsson----------

Oh and if anyone wants pub, parking, restaurant advice, let me know.

just pack players in midfield, preferably five..we need to be aggressive and compact.

We've built more or less an entire new team so it's difficult to assess our prospects. We were excellent against Reading and Blues in August; we were not very good against Burton on Saturday and rank bad on Tuesday against Barnsley (we got away with 0-4 really). I would hope we would at least be having a meaningful challenge for the top six but we need to step it back up to get anywhere near.

Who are the players we should pay special attention to?

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has been a snip at a reported £1m fee and makes everything happen for us attacking wise. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson should prove to be too good for this level in time and there have been bright sparks from Joao Teixeira and Helder Costa though both are struggling to do it consistently.

What's the new manager like?

He likes changing the team. Like, most of it. Like, all the bastard time. It's already winding me up. He's an engaging personality but there are plenty of doubts about him already, we keep starting way too slowly and as I say we aren't getting any continuity of selection.

What do you reckon of Newcastle's transfer business?

I wouldn't have paid 10p for a Ciaran Clark/Grant Hanley combo let alone £10m, but otherwise very decent. Ritchie and Gayle are superb signings for this league.

Where do you reckon we'll end up?

Top and by some way.

Alright lads, Geordie in peace here,

Hi Fish...

Just curious about a few things;
How do you think Wolves are going to fare this season, what's your aims/expectations etc. ? I had hopes of a top six (play off) finish and that should still be our aim
Who are the players we should pay special attention to? Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has started really well for us and is tireless. As for the rest of our new players, it depends who Walter selects! Prince has done ok thus far
What's the new manager like? Passionate! He over rotates for my liking but I feel he is still trying to bed the new signing in...I hope this settles down
What do you reckon of Newcastle's transfer business? Some very good additions to what was already a strong squad. Benitez staying must've been a real boost
Where do you reckon we'll end up? You will win the division and I've put money on that! (so don't be letting me down)
Any of the lads travelling up this game going to stay for the Cup game? Yep, I'll be attending both games but that's pretty easy for me as I live in North Yorkshire...I'm expecting a thumping in both games

Good luck for your season Fish, although I don't think Newcastle will need much luck ;)

Cheers for any replies

Oops, as above :icon_mrgreen:

I think both of those fees were to get the business done and done quick. Certainly Clark with his release clause, it made sense to activate it so that there wasn't any protracted back and forth between a club we expected to be a title challenger. Wasn't Hanley one of the better centre backs in the Championship last season? I know he's... agricultural, but a big strong reliable lump at the back is a marked improvement for us. We needed depth before we got relegated and the extra fixtures only added to that need.

Lots of people seem to be frustrated with Zenga rotating the 1st eleven, is he rotating because of player availability, poor performances, fitness or simply not knowing his best team yet? I ask because Rafa is also rotating the hell out of our squad, but I think that's his style (keeps a big squad hungry and motivated) and the fitness of the players, there's just so many games! As long as we're getting the results ( and lately the performances) we're happy, but I'd imagine we'd eventually get miffed if that were to change.

Well, I doubt you'll need it, but if you want any pub/grub advice let me know.

fitness or simply not knowing his best team yet?

Both of these reasons but now he can add in poor performances if he wants after the last week.

A few of our signings had little to no pre-season. We still have a couple of newbies that haven't even got on the bench yet.

Cheers...Meeting my brother who lives in South Shields about midday and been to a couple of Wolves games up there so will be going with the flow when we meet up

Yeah we're in a similar situation, part of the reason I think we perhaps overspent on the defenders (Clark, Gamez, Hanley and Sels) was to get them trained by Rafa sharpish. The newer players; Atsu, Diame, Lazaar, Murphy and Yedlin haven't played that much and will likely be introduced slowly. Rafa's already said Lazaar and Murphy probably won't play tomorrow and are more likely to face you boys in the cup on Tuesday.

Gamez is an odd one, we're still playing utility players at LB ahead of him despite him being specialised in that position. My theory is that he's been bought as much for the dressing room as the pitch, he was well thought of at Atletico Madrid for his personality and leadership qualities and I could imagine Rafa using him as a liaison for some of the foreign lads?

Do you think Zenga will attack the cup, or play some new lads/fringe players/kids?

I honestly don't know yet! I don't know enough about most of our new signings, and they've yet to click so it's really hard to judge.

Who are the players we should pay special attention to?

Bodvarsson looks excellent, and I'm hoping Cavaleiro starts to show a bit of what he can do sooner rather than later.

What's the new manager like?

I like him - he's got plenty of charisma but to echo everyone else's thoughts, he's got to stop the crazy rotation when it's clear that the players are suffering with it. No-one has a clue what our best XI is, I can understand that it takes time and the best place to gauge opinion is when it matters - during a match. But it's having a detrimental effect and we badly need a bit of stability. As with the new signings, still way too early to judge Zenga.

What do you reckon of Newcastle's transfer business?

Some quality signings, some money spent on utter dross but still more than enough to return to the top flight at the first attempt.

Where do you reckon we'll end up?

You'll win the league quite easily I reckon. Newcastle being in the Championship is like when we were in League 1. You shouldn't be here, you're down here due to awful mis-management and players who don't give a shit but you've got far too much quality for this league. We got 103 points in L1. I can see Newcastle doing similar in the Championship. Just a shame you've got the Fat Spanish Waiter in charge. I can't stand the man.

All the best for the season, sir.
