Newcastle United (A) 09.12.2018

Jota the only one doing his job as part of that front 3. Jimenez and MGW on for the other 2.

Far too much space between the front 3 and the mid. Traore got to go off, would happily take half what we paid for him in Jan if it meant never having to see this side of him again got Wolves.

He is not, and never has been, a centre-forward. A deep-lying one, I hasten to add!

As much as I agree with you about selling him he hasn't had a bad game today, he's just not the player to drop deep. I'd keep him on and hook Costa for MGW and go to the same shape as Wednesday.
Take a screenshot, Johnny and I are 100% in agreement about something.

Someone call the authorities and report Boro, we've been robbed.

Cant understand the starting team either, but we can still change it for now.

I don't think you're not allowed to not blame Traore.

Personally I think he's been ok, chased and created a bit. He's just not the person to be playing as the focal point. I'd rather we have MGW there and Jota and Traore either side.

We've missed Moutinho I think, his quick thinking is what usually gives our back 3 the ball out. Neves doesn't seem quite on the boil, the attempted Cruyff turn was painful.

It's all gone a bit too casual and lacking in tempo. Gifting the ball away going forwards and other than Jota not having much idea going forwards.

Can't say I'm a fan of Traore up front after seeing it a couple of times now. Jiminez is a better link player. It's not as if we're countering on them all the time.

Costa put a great cross in for the goal, but he's been anonymous apart from that.

Jimenez on for Traore
MGW on for Costa

Traoré as a very limited skill set. You might be able to extract some of that out wide. Down the middle is just bonkers. I could have told you that before Cardiff and unsurprisingly it’s still the same. Jiminez and/or MGW please. Adama, Costa or both. Not arsed who, we just need someone in the middle with some kind of ability to hold the ball up.

Yeah think we’ve been poor since conceding, so sloppy in possession. Costa never looks like he has the beating of his man, Neves distribution has been awful.

Agree.

I’d put Cav on for Traore pretty soon though as well to be fair.

We’ve played OK but I do think we lack confidence sometimes.

Jiminez (or Cav) & MGW on for Costa & Traore for the second half please

The problem is he is so sporadic. How are you meant to assist or support a player that is so up and down with every touch of the ball? His control sums it up, sometimes it's dreadful and others he does that nice tight turning drag back. The player he most reminds me of is denilsion. In the sense he has the skills you think should make a world class player, but just can't seem to put it together in a 11 a side team.

Not Traore's fault he's being asked to play out of position. Simply cannot understand the front three. Newcastle aren't even as good as Cardiff: this is a game we could - and should - win easily. If Nuno had started with Jimenez and MGW think we'd be 2 up by now. I'm baffled

I really don't know what Cav has to do to finally move ahead of Costa in the pecking order.

Cav was pretty embarrassingly bad in a couple of games lately. Worse than Costa for sure at times.

We're losing 10-4 on shots: that really isn't good enough. And as someone else has written, this is really the sort of game Ruben Neves should take by the scruff of the neck

He was bad against Huddersfield but that's the only one I can remember. Certainly not worse than Costa, IMO.
