Newcastle United (A) 09.12.2018

Not sure Tim is right that it's a switch back to 3-4-3. I think Jota might drop in the MGW position?

But still, a strange one. This better work Nuno...

Jota will almost certainly be playing in the false 9 in a 3-4-1-2 I suspect.

Not much defensive cover on the bench either - hopefully no injury replacements needed there (though suppose that Saiss gives another option)

Hope Costa plays right side, better link play with Doherty

Well if Jota is playing in MGW’s position from last week then Nuno has also successfully broken up the promising partnership of Vinagre + Jota down our left.

First time I’ve actually been majorly disappointed in a decision from Nuno since he joined.

Let's see how it goes. I agree that I am struggling to see the logic in it. Shoehorning Traore in at the expense of other partnerships within the team is a real concern. Hopefully Adama fucking nails it today and my worries are proved to be nothing other than dust in the wind.

Side confirmed. Been a long time since a pre match line up meltdown, but I really think Nuno has royally cocked that up.

dunno. it was almost there when saiss came in for the cadiff match.

this is certainly a risky move. resting mgw to give him a modicum of shade from the spotlight could be a good move in the long run.

Major fuck up from Nuno, in my opinion. What message does that send out to MGW? Of course I’ll totally support the lads & hope we come away with the win, but this is the first, genuine “what the fuck is he thinking?” moment for me.

Can’t wait to watch us hoof it long for Traore to run on to rather than playing proper football like we did v Chelsea.
No chance has Nuno left Morgan on the bench today without explaining the decision to him.

Well yeah, obviously.

Means nothing, though. Morgan will want to play and he should be starting.

Can see the Costa for Jiminez switch (at least initially) as the latter worked incredibly hard on Wednesday

Not sure about the other change up there - MGW was on for 70 mins & has had 4 days to recover. Should have recovered sufficiently to start even if he doesn't play the full game

Just be gratefuly ou don't have to watch via NBC. Patricio has been a disruptive signing, and Coady (really a midfielder) doesn't properly know how to play de-fense

What a load of fucking cock that is!!!! NBC clearly know absolutely nothing.

I normally really like Martino but I really had to scratch my head at that. The Coady remark especially.

150th appearance for Coady today

How tiny are the technical areas here?!!

Square ball to Jota for a simple tap in, Adama?

come on traiore you had jota open

Nice turn from Traore but should have played Jota in.

Traore will need to remember that Yedlin is the only other player in the Prem who can keep pace with him. Don't think he expected DeAndre to make up the ground there.
