My local chippy does a special offer of fish, chips and mushy peas in a box for around £6-7. There's plenty for 2 people.

If you buy a huge fish and small chips then it's easily a tenner. But can easily feed 2 or 3 people.

Would be very different to over in Wolves then. Those box meals are no way designed for two.

The US has loads of alternative burger franchise joints. We don't get as much choice over here, but there's a Tim Hortons appeared in Burton recently. Still doesn't look any good though.

Not getting much change out of £20 for fish and chips for two now

My preferred chippy round here does fish, chips and a side in a tray for something like £13. The fish is huge though and ended up becoming a sharing portion after the first couple times I went there to end up leaving a decent chunk of it.

Saw a couple of walkers go in there once and order 2 bags of chips and 2 large fish - properly regretted that order when they saw the portions at the end. It's become one of my life ambitions to order a large fish in there but reckon it'll take a group of at least 4 to see it off.

Last time I popped over I went to fordhouses fish bar on the Stafford Road
Late Sunday night just before closing, asked for a Balti pie, chips, curry sauce and a can of vimto
Got £10 out of the wallet. Lady said £10.20. I was a bit surprised tbh but I'd rather have that over a maccies for sure!

TH is Canadian isn't it? Some of their pastries are good but wasn't impressed by the chicken burger I had once.

Oh I agree, it just serves a purpose if I'm out somewhere with the Mrs and kids, we all ate last week and had a drink in Great Yarmouth spoons, for less than 35 quid, was far more enjoyable than a burger/kfc joint and their local Toby which cost us double.

Quite enjoy nipping in occasionally to the Spoons in the High Street. Some stonking beer the last couple of times in and it makes a welcome change to the over 15 quid I now pay in the local for one pint of beer and a large glass of wine. Makes a huge difference when amplified over a large round too.

Trying to persuade our group of 4 to nip in tonight for a couple before heading to a restaurant for a sort of, economical pre-loading. Not been into spoons on a Friday night before so might not be a wise move, but anyway, still can’t work out if spoons is cheap or the other places are expensive but with the differences so vast it’s hardly surprising they are so popular.

I’m pretty sure a Big Mac meal was £2.98 when I was at Uni. With a free cheeseburger thanks to my NUS card too of course.
