New - The things that really annoy you

Played CH or CM, pretty sure he was in midfield that day

You'll have ignited a Chapman fuelled rage somewhere in Spain.
A bit unfair on Campbell especially. He had a pretty decent career over a number of years and remember the level we were at when he played. Other players from poor local leagues got minutes as well.

Somehow managed to miss the news that my EV car tax will be the same as big diesel next year. And because EVs were stupidly expensive, I get the benefit of paying “luxury tax” too. What a farce

Yeah it was announced a while back.

I deliberately taxed mine early this year in March instead of June so that I can tax it for another 12 months for nowt next March before the prices kick in in April.

I love my diesel car. £20 a year is hard to find though tbf. Especially when compared to my extraordinary MPG.

Yep, I mentioned on the ‘Car’ thread some time ago that EV’s were about to lose their preferential treatment and be subject to the Expensive Car Supplement of £410 for vehicles over £40,000.

Thing is, that threshold was set in 2017 when there’s a fair argument a motor over that value could be considered an expensive car but it hasn’t been adjusted since. According to Auto Express the average new car price in May 2024 was £42,340. Hopefully now the EV owners getting sucked in will add their voices to exposing the con the rest of us have been exposed to for some time.

£600 quid to road tax an ‘average’ car. The treasury must be lapping it up.

I’m increasingly thinking I’m going to go back to diesel and buying one of the powerful yet economical larger engined bad boys. With the Euro 6’s still in production there should be a good number of years ahead before they are culled, so they’re still the way to go if you’re not obsessed with green issues and don’t want the fucking about that comes with an EV.

I did once have a £20 a year diesel. Mini Cooper D. Pound for pound the best car I ever had and in retrospect should probably never have got rid of it.

As long as you aren't required to do 100s of miles per day as part of your job, and If you can have a charger fitted at home, then EVs are still a massive no-brainier over any other car, even on lease/pcp. You'll save whatever the road tax cost is per year on fuel alone never mind the savings on maintenance and servicing.

You do see them over here, but not in huge numbers. There is a big charging station at the car park of Coles in the nearest town 20ks away, and I see a few charging, but it isn't full.

Maybe the coverage of charging stations isn't as good as it could be. Or maybe the electric vehicle hasn't really hit with an audience that like utes and things with big engines. Fuel here is about 85p a litre at the mo, and they all think the price is scandalous.

Yeah, I could have a charger fitted at home and an EV would work for a huge % of my journey’s but it’s an unnecessary faff for the still relatively significant number of trips outside of the range.

I’m not sure they are a no brainier either. There seems to be a bit too much obsession with the charging cost ppm but it’s the overall cost that interests me.

I did some sums when changing mine last year. I don’t lease or PCP, and buy assuming I’ll keep it about 3 years and do 10k miles pa. Something like a Tesla 3 or equivalent on a lease PCP package was coming in at total cost package of around £28k. You just don’t need to spend that kind of money and can get an awful lot of quality petrol/diesel motors for less than a 28 grand hammering over 3 years.

I’m not anti-EV’s at all, but if you’re not particularly green or benefitting from business user tax breaks then I’m still to see numbers showing they stack up. Factor in the aforementioned unnecessary hassle factor and it’s a big turn off.

I guess we’ll get there eventually but I think I’ll stay out of it all for a good while yet.

Thats a crazy price for a Tesla, you could lease a MY at £299 a month over 3 years with 6 months up front recently. £12k over 3 years, you'd struggle to get a comparable diesel for that.

I got my ID7 for 2 years at lower than that too. The depreciation on buying any new car would be more.

Who are those lease numbers with and what mileage per annum? Way better than anything I can see with my company lease deals. I'm still with my own diesel as a result and taking the cash.

Just go on the Tesla website and play with the offers. This is the current best offer I can see on the MY LR (the offer offer was the standard range)

That’s said I wouldn’t get a Tesla! Go on Leaseloco and search by their best value deals, that’s how I found my ID7.

It surprises me that the Model 3 is still much more expensive than a Y, which is a newer model.

Selling the Model Y off as new one is out soon. Also cheaper to lease as depreciation is less on the Y
