I've been very impressed with how naturally my niece and nephew (14 and 11, respectively) self-regulate their screentime. It seems the novelty of being constantly online is lost on the youngest generation.

There may yet be hope. I think the fact that all of this has come on so quickly has just left a lot of folks born before 1990 (heck, maybe even people my age where "the Internet" originally meant a 56k modem) without proper coping mechanisms for it.

its not just Molineux either, I first noticed this hobbling around on crutches after a tendinitis flare up. People are utterly oblivious of their surroundings, forever getting walked into, or things like people parked on pavements blocking access etc. We're a nation of selfish cunts.

Mine is less than 12 months old and it's developed a fault already that is giving me no hot water. Just what you want on a Friday afternoon So go to sit on the phone to Worcester Bosch on hold for ages now.

My old one was nearly 20 years old and never had a thing go wrong with it until the end when it packed in. I hate how things aren't properly designed to last nowadays.

Yeah, our old one had two common faults - one or the other would generally crop up every 4-6 weeks. One just needed a reset and one was messing with the valves a bit.

Got the new one this summer, paid towards the top end of the range but it's the kind of thing I just want done and I don't have to think about it for 10 years.

Yeah fine at 1.5. It's some kind of "flame error" preventing it from lighting.

Of course the earliest appointment for an engineer is now Monday morning, so gonna have to rely on the kettle for hot water in the kitchen. Luckily the shower is electric so will still work fine.

This new one was fitted last November too when it was bloody freezing. Again the old one packed in on a Thursday afternoon, so by the time I got a local engineer to come out the next morning and realise it was knackered the new one he ordered wouldn't come until the Monday.

So I had to go all weekend with thick jumpers and double socks on freezing my nadgers off. Think I had more hot showers that weekend than when I was a teenager!

We managed not to need our heating until 8th December last year and had it turned on (was an ancient warm hair heating system), was nice and toastie for a few hours until the carbon monoxide detector started bleeping on the night and we had to leave the house and sit in the car with thick ice all over it until the gas board arrived to isolate the gas and condemn the old system. We spent the rest of the winter wrapped in many layers with heaters going until we finally got someone to install central heating in early April as the snow bucketed down. Will be great this year to flick the switch and have warmth from it

Thats not the electronics though - that's the software associated with it, thinking is you make the new features so attractive and only available on newer h/w people want to upgrade.
