New Manager Search *BACK ON*

Currently I'm swinging wildly from excitement to terrified at the thought of Nuno coming back.
Was dead against 5 days ago but its getting ridiculous how inept we've been in getting a new coach.
Just hope the naysayers don't get on his back too much/soon if it goes tits up.

Clearly we don't have any confidence in our second choices after Lopetegui, or want to risk the possibility of another failure and going down.

Nuno, if re-signed, will be a safe pair of hands until next summer. I then expect us to re-visit Lopetegui if he's available. Maybe we've even already promised him the job once his father's situation is resolved and he's had a break.

The number of managers who return to manage a former club is so low that it means it is statistically irrelevant to the “never go back” - that is just an emotional response. The only meaningful question is whether Nuno is a good manager. A promotion, two top half finishes and a successful Europa League campaign wouid suggest he has got some talents. When things were going well, he had a good relationship with the fans.

But honestly, what he has done in the past is irrelevant - what can he do in the future?

I really don't see Nuno coming on the premise that he's caretaking the role, nor 'the jobs yours Julen once your dad has died'
I doubt we'd be telling him that. Any manager knows if he's successful he keeps his job, if he isn't then he won't.

If we finish top 10 then he's successfully turned us around. If he only keeps us up, we'll probably look elsewhere again.

I get the "don't go back" thing when it's a manager who's been empirically proven to be hopelessly outdated. Like Steve Bruce, by any measure, did a really good job at Blues and for most of his time there had a decent connection with the fans...but it was all 15-20 years ago now, and his football is obviously rubbish and unsuitable for any serious level, and he's been awful in three of his last four jobs, and he's old with the mindset of an old man. So if Blues fans said "let's get Brucie back, we haven't had it as good since he left"...the second part is true, but it would be a terrible idea.

Nuno was our manager 18 months ago, that doesn't apply. And his football is NOT how the morons on Twitter categorise it. I know, I was there.

I think Nuno will also be happy to work with the squad at his disposal i.e. I don't think he'll rock up here and go "right, 5 at the back, roll it back, lads". I suspect we'll see the back 4 remain the same, but he'll actually get the team playing in a way going forward where we actually, y'know, score a goal from time to time. Most of us have forgotten what it's like!

Jeff Shi replacement?

I'd forgotten about goal music until someone mentioned it earlier

Moyes seems to be doing a decent job at WHU.

That's a fun one. Gaps between goals this season (just taking every game as 90 minutes, dead on, which it isn't):

6 minutes
-------------
Podence (Leeds A)
-----------------
302 minutes (5hrs 2 mins)
-----------------------
Neves (Newcastle H)
-----------------------
187 minutes (3hrs 7 mins)
-----------------------------
Podence (Southampton H)
------------------------------
315 minutes (5hrs 15 mins and counting)

Or we last scored a goal 41 days ago, if you like. 69 days since we scored away from home. 152 days since we scored in the second half of any game.

\in comparison, Haaland has scored a goal every 48 minutes (that stat might be out of date now)

I know you jest, but do we have the players for 352?

I don't think so.

A player light at CB and up front.

I can't stand Guedes but I reckon his best use would be as a second striker in that kind of system.

Struggling tomorrow with it but longer term Toti-Kilman-Collins looks ok at CH.

We played some great football with 3-5-2 with Nuno. Probably our best. Second half of 2018/19 with Raul and Jota up front.
