Guedes has always had inconsistent periods throughout his career, I'm hoping this is just one of them. I thought he looked alright at the start of the season and was holding off on judging him as Lage's system seemed almost purposely designed to give his forwards the hardest job possible (almost like a reverse POMO, position of minimum opportunity). The last few games he's looked absolutely crap though.

I said when we signed him that I hadn't seen a massive amount of him as I don't watch Spanish football but that when I had seen him for Portugal he'd always looked rubbish. STILL haven't seen him have a properly good game yet. This can't be all he is, I just can't accept it. To have the amount of money spent on him in his career already and some of the rave reviews from sources I trust... There's got to be a player in there, just got to be.

Sorry to be harsh, but of course he isn't the best man available.

He's already in a job, just as the likes of Amorim and Svensson are.

We just have a team incapable of selling the club to anyone who isn't a) on Jorge's contact list and b) on a downward trajectory

Let's be honest. No one sane is paying the 30 odd million it takes for Amorim. Svensson doesn't seem like he's on the market for a move either.

The financial element (if true) is fair enough as a pause for thought, but him and Svensson are just two examples of attainable and ambitious managers who should be a perfect match for fairly established PL clubs like us. There are others out there, do you believe we're even seriously considering any of them? It seems like we've just returned to our 2017 Mendes shortlist

He has things about his game that look fantastic in a highlight reel, but he's not doing them across a whole 90 minutes.

Eg, he's had a few games where he's picked the ball up deep and made a good run forward, shaking off opponents and then putting in a decent final pass or cross... or he'll take a really good free kick... or he'll read someone else's run perfectly and bust forward to make himself available for a one-two to cut open the opposing defence... or he'll fire in a shot that goes narrowly wide... I could go on, but the problem is he'll do like 2-3 of these per game and otherwise be completely anonymous. And this stuff also almost always happens in the first half, he still seems not to have adjusted to the intensity of the PL and his one consistent attribute, his running, drops off massively 50-60 minutes into every match.

I think the answer to your final line there is that we've got ourselves a classic example of a wonderkid who never reached the heights that a lot of people in the game thought he would, and the sunk cost fallacy means that his reputation continues to reflect what might be more than what currently is.

It is true. We already know Sporting paid that sort of money to get him so he's not attainable.

Svensson from my knowledge has turned down discussions for other similar level jobs to wolves already.

I don't disagree with the final part but we are in a position where our chairman knows diddly about football.

If the Nuno rumours are true, it shows what a complete clown show of a club we are. However, I bet no-one thinks we would go down with him in charge.

Thing is though he's always had that reputation of not quite fulfilling his potential but over the last couple of seasons he had really kicked on and become a key player for Valencia. I thought when we signed him that we'd got him at the perfect time in his development, after he'd shaken off the baggage of the PSG move and early hype.

If he's just adapting to English football and will improve as time goes on that's fine but the improvement needs to come soon. The weight of evidence is stacking up for me and although we've got a few injuries we're not exactly short of wide forwards, he'll find himself stuck on the bench and out of the Portugal squad for the World Cup if he doesn't start producing.

The caveat to all that is that I've only ever seen him play for Bruno Lage and Fernando Santos who are both fucking shite.

Better a clown show in the Prem than a clown show in the Championship.

Which is to say, we already knew we were a clown show.

Isn't that the joke journalist? Made up as she's never worked anywhere and nobody can find an article she's written?
I was only backing up the shit rumour from last night...
