Middlesbrough (A) 30/3 Build-Up Thread

Easter weekend. Long way to go. On TV. It's Middlesbrough.

Lots of reasons not to go...

Very easy to be free with other people's time and money.

I know there’s lots of reasons not to go. I’m using them myself. But I’m then not going to sit here and say it’s not poor when it is.

Particularly when we have sold out to Cardiff.

Cardiff is a couple of hours on the train, Middlesborough is requiring of two days, a three figure train fare and an overnight stay (from this part of the world). My life commitments can't justify that, if I could I would be there.

Fully agree with this - just not doable with my finances

Would have done Cardiff if not moved courtesy of Sky which would have meant an overnight stay (no train would get me back home) so will have to watch online

Friday, Tuesday, Friday, Wednesday and Sunday. 5 games in 16 days means that fans with normal sized pockets have to make choices.

To say that support is 'poor' is your opinion but I think it is completely understandable that the trip to 'Boro may be bottom of the list on most people's choices.

Wolves fans have been brilliant this season, ask Nuno, so I'm not going to criticise anyone for not going to Middlesbrough.

Yep but you can’t get back on the train to Cardiff (not when I looked anyway, might be wrong).

Not coming from Dorset is fair enough! But if we can sell 3k to Cardiff (we’d have probably sold 5k), yet struggle to sell 2k for Boro when on paper it’s easier trip (earlier kick off, bank holiday), then that is because we are not as well supported Club as we think. Nothing wrong with that, it is what it is. But then we have to accept that and not try and come up with excuses

We've sold out our allocation bar 70, that's 3.5% left, which may well go on the day. You don't need to completely sell out to be a well supported club and it's a nonsense to say that we're not well supported based on one game.

I agree with what you are saying. It is not a dig at the individual, everyone’s circumstances are different. More the club as a whole.

That is fair enough. I thought it was only 1500, which is what I saw yesterday I think. It not just one game though really. We didn’t take that many to Sheff Wed and Leeds, and to an extent Millwall.

Re the last match - who actually wants to go there!

For what it's worth i agree with Punts and i raised this point when we took just over a thousand to Sheff Weds before xmas. We're top of the league and yes i know there's lots of reasons to not go but even with all that i don't understand how we can sell 5k for Barnsley yet can't sell out for a pretty big game towards the end of the season away at Boro. Also not sure where this 70 left has come from, we still had 900 left on Monday which is a substantial amount left for a club of this size in the position we are in.

Like i've said before i understand the reasons for not going especially when it comes to money, travel etc but if you can afford it, can get there somehow then people should be going to watch this team, we've not had it this good for years and we might never again as the Premier League will be tough so make the most of it. With all that i'm sure there are more than the 1600/1700 that are going that could make it, the club and the players deserve it this season.

I think the games you've chosen there are not a fair comparison. Both Yorkshire clubs prices have been railed against by several supporters club's. Are you really saying we're not well supported by not taking our whole allocation at Millwall on Boxing Day?

We are well supported no question. Are we extremely well supported, the stats suggest not.

Yes the players (this season) deserve it, but for those of us south of Watford it's a 3 day trip as unless you are prepared for a very long drive then no way of doing it without a stay over (probably for the night before & after)

Why are you trying to dig at the club anyway? The support has been great this season. Molineux is near enough full every week, and away support has been great - Preston, Fulham, Derby, Man City, Villa, Barnsley, Reading we had huge turnouts

Sheff Wed - massively overpriced tickets, on a Thursday night, close to Christmas and on TV. Leeds - massively overpriced, on a Wednesday night and on TV. Millwall - 1pm kick off on Boxing Day, arranging travel would have been a nightmare.

It's easy to pick out odd games where the away following hasn't been as big as other games, but there are mitigating circumstances around it

There were 275 left a few days ago so not sure where the 900 left has come from either.

Plus midweek games can be a nightmare to get home from. I go to home games on the train, midweek games I cannot get a train home unless I leave the game 10 minutes before the end so have to arrange a lift or get halfway home and get picked up. Away games would be worse. Plus people probably have the little matter of work the morning after a midweek away game, and probably don't fancy working all day, travelling hundreds of miles on a round trip and then work again on little to no sleep, especially if the game is on TV
