Manchester City (A) 14.01.2019

I don't think Boly was a red, daft tackle though and deserved a yellow and a stiff talking to by both the ref and by Nuno. Sterling is a diving bastard but so is Salah, Jota, and plenty more.
Yellow is fine for going in at that speed, just not a straight red for me

Traore is on for Jiminez for the second half - need to do something different (& he is)

Not worth just persevering with what we were doing

Prob more to keep Raul fresh tbh.

Would expect Jota and Moutinho off fairly soon as well.

The rules talk about challenging from the side with excessive force. He doesn't challenge from any side it's a loose ball which Silva chooses to run towards. Boly's force isn't excessive either - appropriate for what he was trying to do.

Exactly this

Then you have to ban going to ground completely then as it's a physical impossibility to tackle going down and not show your studs
Not at all. Just depends on the direction, if you're coming straight on to the ball then it's very difficult to hide the studs but if you swipe across the ball then you can easily meet it with the top of your foot.

Red was harsh but I've seen them given. No complaints with the pen, though.

Authors of out own misfortune, but if there's a game to get the fuckups out of the way, it's this one.

The rule (taken from FA website):

Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.

I think no matter whatever our views are on the red card and penalty, it's going to be a long second half.

Yes that's what I meant, straight on

The only thing the ref can give the red for there is excessive force, and that's debatable.

All the talk of, off the ground, studs up, is nonsense. There's no such thing in the laws. Same sort of shite when people still say "last man".

Donk looks good at CB. Might see him stay in the team and Bennett drop out in 3 games.

It isn't a challenge on the player.
It isn't excessive force
It does not endanger the opponent.

You don't get shit against the big teams. Some things don't change in the prem.

Boly has been making those tackles all season. Most forwards have not been feigning a broken ankle afterwards though. I want that referee's red card because it seems to have remarkable healing powers.

Sterling's Mrs must love him if that's all the contact it takes for him to go down.

My nieces choir makes more noise than City's fans and she's 6

I do like Traores efforts at tracking a player back, takes three steps and thinks 'Oh fuck it' :)

Love the Ole's from our fans.

Adama doing well and exactly what was needed.

Saiss on for Jota - this game is gone so may as well save our forward talent for the next one given that Jota has only recently come back from injury

Home decisions for big 6 clubs who would have thunk it!

Free swing tonight. Shame re Boly. Need a result v Leicester now.

Argue all we want, but the red basically killed a game I was really looking forward to.

Didn't expect to pick up a point but it would've been nice to watch two solid footballing teams have a go at one another. Shame

Donk looks like he's at home in this team. Very solid.
