Manchester City (A) 14.01.2019

If it is a red I would love to know how

a) Kompany didn't get two reds for his challenge on Salah

b) Why Fernandinho is still on the pitch tonight.

It's a stonewall penalty and I'm afraid that I agree with the red card too. No complaints on either from me, City look really composed too.

The home fans are appalling though.

Don’t know if I’d call it stonewall, it’s soft - don’t know what Bennett was doing though, if you wave your feet about like that, sterling’s always going to fall over and then the ref has a decision to make. Poor defending.

No alcohol here and yes i know its not 1982 anymore..if a city player had made that tackle it wouldnt have been a straight red..just saying

Whatever way you look at it (I think football is soft today) the way the game is now it was a red card and a penalty. You can't tackle with your foot off the ground and any contact in the box the player is going to go down.

City player made a worse tackle five minutes before. Yellow

Consistency would be nice.

I hate to say it but this might be worth chucking Traore on.

Probably right, might catch a break with a long ball, you know City, they all like to get to try and get in on the goals and might leave a gap.
Regardless, match is over, they are toying with us, we just need to keep it respectable.... (less than 4 or 5)

Well, it's a red card and a penalty. Whether Boly deserves a 3 game ban is questionable, but that's what he'll get, so it's important the Donk plays well. What worries me is the runaround we'll get in the 2nd half and with two days' less rest than Leicester we could be in trouble on Saturday. This game may have been a free hit. Leicester most certainly isn't.

The 3rd replay angle clearly showed the contact for the penalty, and no matter how many times people say Boly gets the ball, it's irrelevant as you cannot tackle like that any more.

That's nonsense, Boly's in control of the tackle and his foot isn't endangering the opponent any worse than somebody stepping on his foot.

It's a nonsense decision.

Kompany on Salah last week for instance?
Exactly..actually Kompany had his studs up in other games before also a few times this season and not getting sent off

Piss poor refereeing

Fernandinhos's was from the side and Jota toes the ball away just before he gets there.

He isn't in control of the tackle once he jumps with both feet off the ground.

If Bennett doesn't flick his leg out there's no pen, it's that simple. Gave Sterling and the ref every reason for it to be given.

It’s a stupid thing from Boly to do. So annoying. No need to lunge at all

Bennett and Doc has a mare on the first goal. Not sure that was a penalty at all however

my initial thought was its a yellow, but at full speed it doesn't look good. As Carragher just said your not allowed to tackle like that, rightly or wrongly is down to opinion.

Might want to wind that on he hits the floor before he hits the ball and the player.

And his eyes are only on the ball.

Comments on the atmosphere are on the money - polite applause from them, if that - the only fans you can hear singing are ours.

Given that goal difference is not going to be a reason that we go back down then would consider Traore at some point - we aren't going to get anything from this if we stay as we are so may as well give something to do in their half of the field even if for us he is a marmite player.

Red card - probably correct. the studs were raised (though there were challenges from MC that could also have been carded)

Penalty - can see why it was given as a clumsy challenge & Bennett let him get on the wrong side, but he went down easy which is what PL forwards will do.
