Basically we’ve now got bad decisions on delay, the rule on clear and obvious error is so vague it creates huge blurred lines.
If you ask me it’s a cop out that gives the PGMOL a safety net and a loop hole if their officials make an error like today.
Whatever Mariner had given today they would back him up.
It allows an environment for inconsistency in decisions and sheer hypocrisy and frankly a false environment.
There’s also a huge amount of arrogance throughout the game that sweeps this under the carpet. PGMOL are faceless, unaccountable and view any complaints as bitterness, lack of knowledge and an attitude of “we’re always right end off discussion”
They also assume the average fan is stupid with no common sense and zero knowledge of the laws.
The media very much play to the tune of the big 6. They also have an attitude of we know better than the fans.
Only a very few have called out today’s decisions as appalling, the rest don’t care frankly because of who fell foul of it. If this happens in the Manchester derby we hear about well into next week.
We were told minimum interference when it was bought in. Ok that’s fine but be consistent, classic example of over interference was the Mahrez penalty at Molineux at Xmas 2019, less than 1 year later Traoare was booked for a similar incident.
If we’ve got VAR we want as close to the right call as possible, most fans will forgive 50/50 calls. But the officials are hiding behind the clear and obvious mantra currently.
