Loan Watch 2022/2023

I think hoever went off injured in the last game didn’t he?

(Although I agree it will likely become a theme)

Quick midweek update:

Dion Sanderson played the full game for Blues in a dismal 2-0 defeat at home to Cardiff. The defence fell apart for the second with Sanderson static. Is that Blues I see looking over their shoulders at the bottom 3 I see there?

Giles played for Boro in a spectacular 3-1 win at Sheff United, but get an assist in a run that's stretched to 8 league games now. They've won 9 out the last 10, though, and look like they could gatecrash the top two. Does he get a move there if they do?

Luke Cundle in no.10 role helped Swansea beat MM's Blackpool 2-1. He had a productive first half, starting the move that led to the first then setting up a chance that hit the post. Subbed on 80.

Sarkic got his first clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Colin's Huddersfield. Made a very good save to tip over a fierce header.

As mentioned, Chem Campbell impressed for Wycombe in his hour at Accrington. Played his part in the first goal of a 2-0 win and cut in from the right to blast a left-footed shot over.

Lonwijk played the full game of a 3-1 win at Oxford. Played a one-two with the right winger to venture forward a whip a peach of a cross in, but Argyle couldn't put it away.

Taylor Perry played 70 minutes of a 2-1 win at Cambridge. A big win that gives them some breathing space from the bottom 3.

Joe Young played in yet another defeat, this time a 3-0 at King's Lynn.

On as sub: Silva came on for the last 30 minutes or so in PSV's 3-0 Europa League defeat at Sevilla. Everyone's favourite fraud came on for the last half hour of Benfica's 2-0 Champions League win at Scotty P's Club Brugge - and fired a shot wide.

Unused sub: Smith.

Not in squad: Hoever.

Edit: Forgot the Stokies.

Hard to get details, but Yerson started and (as far as I can tell) was on the pitch for 3 of the 6 goals Cincy shipped in their final preseason match, losing 3-6 to Nashville.

Real matches (and therefore real conclusions!) kick off on Saturday.

Ljonwick has looked good, generally calm and composed when I’ve seen him. I guess another year at Championship level would boost his experience definitely, and I think like most players they really like the environment that there is at Home Park at the moment.
From a mate who is a plymouth fan. He's hoping they get promotion and they keep Ljonwick, as proposed by I think TT earlier this week?
Anyhow, it seems Nigel is building up a lot of fans.

Dion Sanderson - Birmingham (Championship)

Played the full game in Blues’ 2-1 defeat at Colin’s Huddersfield. Seven points from the relegation zone….

Ryan Giles - Middlesbrough (Championship)

Played the full game at home to QPR and helped them to a 3-1 win, although still no goal contributions. He did swing in one wicked corner that almost dropped in, though.

Luke Cundle - Swansea City (Championship)

Played an hour of Swansea’s 1-0 defeat at Blackburn.

Matija Sarkic - Stoke City (Championship)

Played in a 1-0 defeat at Blackpool and got unlucky with a heavily deflected shot for the goal.

Nigel Lonwijk - Plymouth Argyle (League One)

Played the full game in a frustrating 0-0 draw with Fleetwood. His keeper got him out of jail after he let the ball run through to a forward. Seems to be doing a bit of overlapping down the right.

Taylor Perry - Cheltenham Town (League One)

Played the full game of a 4-0 home defeat to Barnsley. Did show some individual brilliance by nutmegging a defender then firing a shot into the side netting.

Hayao Kawabe and Bendeguz Bolla - Grasshoppers Zurich (Swiss Super League)

Both played the full game of a 2-1 home defeat to local rivals FC Zurich. Kawabe started brightly, having a low shot tipped round the post. But GHZ contrived to throw away a 1-0 lead. They’re now 1 point off the bottom.

Joe Young - AFC Telford, National League North
Played in yet another defeat away at Alfreton (1-0), but was Telford’s best player, pulling off a string of saves.

On as sub: Hoever came on for the last 20 minutes of Stoke’s loss at Blackpool, Guedes played a similar amount for Benfica in their 3-1 win and flashed a fierce shot wide, Corbeanu made a late 5-minute cameo for Bielefield, while Sang-Bin came on for the final few minutes for GHZ.

Unused subs: Silva, Campbell, Smith.
Not in squad: Jordao

No game or friendly: Mosquera

No Sanderson in the Blues squad tonight, and Luke Cundle drops to the bench for Swans.

Hoever starts alongside Sarkic for Stoke though.

Sanderson is injured. Hoever has started before against Hull, subbed off after 75

BBC championship live page.

Enter Matija Sarkic: the goalkeeper, who's on loan to Stoke from Wolves, somehow keeps Piroe's effort out with a sprawling dive and outstretched arm, turning the danger behind. Save of the season contender.

Sarkic and hoever seemed to have played well according to twitter

Hoever played the full game but switched from LB to RB during the game. Sarkic made a couple of good saves in a 3-1 win.

Swansea boss Russell Martin said he missed the energy of Cundle and Fulton who both missed out due to injury.

Sanderson missed Blues' defeat at Norwich due to injury as well: he could be out for up to two months.

Taylor Perry played the full game in the EFL Trophy play-off at Plymouth but was on the losing side as they went out on penalties. Lonwijk was suspended but might get to play in a Wembley final.

Young helped Telford to a rare point in a 1-1 draw with Leamington, while Smith stayed on the bench for the Saddlers.

Following is a not so indepth report on our Stokie loanees via the man doing some work on our Garden who is a Stoke STH

Sarkic - Looked poor in his opening 2 games. Couldn't kick and would punch every cross rather than catch. Settled down now and looks very good indeed. Hopes they buy him in the summer now they are about to be freed from the grasps of FFP

Hoever - A player in there but at times he looks like he doesn't give a shit. Off the ball he is lazy and looks like he wants to be anywhere but on the pitch. On the ball, fine. If he doesn't snap out of the off the ball stuff, the Stoke fans will break him. Had enough of players like that

I imagine we'll take £1m plus a sell on for Sarkic if Stoke can afford that. Lop Cat doesn't rate him at all so it's pointless him being here, and he's too old now to dick about on loan for years.

I know nothing of Stoke's situation but apparently selling Souttar to Leicester will put them back in a position to spend money again from the Summer and not rely on freebies and loans.

Always take fans view on FFP with a pinch of salt though as the majority understand it as much as Tim Spiers does (myself included)

Think Ruud will regret not giving Fabio more game time over the 2 legs after the last half hour tonight. Played off the left but everything we haven’t had from a striker this season, ran channels, held it up, won headers, linked play and then bagged a goal. Unfortunately not enough because of a mad 10 minutes in the first leg. Hopefully that 30 minutes gets him in the team from the start now.
