Loan Watch 2022/2023

Finally got round to an update. It's been a while!

Hayao Kawabe - Grasshoppers Zurich (Swiss Super League)

Played the full game and got a dramatic late winner against Basel with a nice chipped finish from far out after the keeper came off his line. It keeps GHZ off the bottom of the table.

Goal on 3:40

Goncalo Guedes - Benfica (Primeira Liga)

Played 72 minutes of a 3-0 win over Casa Pia in which he played no part in any of the goals, you might be surprised to learn.

Dion Sanderson - Birmingham (Championship)
Played the full game in a 4-3 win at Swansea where Blues scored two goals in injury time to come from behind. Sanderson’s man nipped in front of him to tap in Swansea’s second.

Ryan Giles - Middlesbrough (Championship)

83 minutes for Giles in a 3-0 win over Merlin’s Blackpool. Still no assist - it’s been a few games now - but he was unlucky not to get one after his free kick was headed off the underside of the crossbar. Boro looking strong bets for the play-offs.

Matija Sarkic - Stoke City (Championship)

Made his debut in a 1-0 defeat at Luton

Taylor Perry - Cheltenham Town (League One)

Played 70 minutes in a 1-0 defeat at Notlob. Cheltenham only 3 points above the drop zone now.

Joe Young - AFC Telford (National League North)

Had a poor game in a 3-1 defeat at Darlington in which he was at fault for two of the goals.

On as sub: Fabio Silva made his debut with a 20-minute cameo in PSV’s 2-2 draw at Feyenoord, in which time they squandered a 2-nil lead. Cundle came on for the last half hour for Swansea in their defeat to Blues while Hoever made his debut by coming on at HT for Stoke in their 1-0 defeat at Luton.
Lonwijk came on after 14 minutes in a 1-0 defeat at Sheff Weds due to an injury: Argyle lose their place at the top to them as a result. Chem Campbell came on for the last 5 minutes of Wycombe’s 3-0 win at Port Vale. Bolla and Sang-bin both came on for GHZ, after 65 minutes and 86 minutes respectively.

Unused subs: Smith, Corbeanu, Jordao

No game or friendly: Mosquera, Arinbjornsson

I saw one of the Benfica goals earlier on a BT Sport round-up thing. He was wide open on the left, screaming for it but whoever had the ball knew far better than to pass to that useless wanker, so just took it on himself.

Also mate I think Arinbjornsson is back. Played for the U21s vs Stoke yesterday and his loan to Skeid was only marked to the end of 2022 (obviously they're not playing in Norway right now, too cold for the woke bastards).

Yerson has been put directly into Cincinnati's first team for preseason training, which is a positive sign. No squad number yet from what I can tell, though.

Just seen Coady on Soccer Saturday doing his loving training, loving the new ideas, brilliant manager shtick.

He's good with the media and I don't blame him, not a lot else he can say, but you realise in hindsight how false it all was when he was here

This one slipped under the radar.

Guedes got his first goal for Benfica the other night in the Portuguese Cup QFs at Braga...but then he got injured after half an hour, and Benfica ended up going out on pens.

Goal at the start of the video:

Fabio also came on for the last 10 minutes of PSV's 3-1 cup win vs Emmen.

Well he's probably got a point after suffering through a Lage/Lampard combo the last 12 months.

Yeah, he does that well IMO

Coady was interviewed on a Saturday evening / might have been a Sunday , in the Match of the Day studio after captaining Wolves to a win under Lage which kept us in a very strong position in the table . He was asked about Lage and came out with the exact same stuff . Just press play.......

Yerson appeared with the starters in Cincinnati's preseason match against Philadelphia this past weekend.

No idea how he did individually (Cincy lost and shipped 3 goals) but they clearly think of him as part of their best XI at the moment.

Weekend update:

Dion Sanderson - Birmingham (Championship)

Played the full game of Blues’ 2-0 win over A*bion. From the glimpses I saw of the live game he looked pretty assured on the right of a back three and even had a barnstorming run down the right at one stage (for which he was booked for kicking the ball away after it had gone out).

Ryan Giles - Middlesbrough (Championship)

Played the full game in a 3-1 win at Cardiff. Unlucky not to get an assist: played a great one-two then put a peach of a ball in that his team mate hit the post from, then Boro somehow missed an open goal from another one of his balls in.

Matija Sarkic and Ki-Jana Hoever - Stoke City (Championship)

Both started at home vs Hull in a 0-0 draw. First clean sheet for Sarkic, who made a couple of good saves. Hoever made his full debut, playing 75 minutes.

Nigel Lonwijk - Plymouth Argyle (League One)

Played a full game in a 3-1 win over Pompey which puts Argyle two points clear at the top of League One.

Taylor Perry - Cheltenham Town (League One)

Played 90 minutes of a goalless draw at home to Accrington and probably should have done better with a good chance, scuffing at the shot which the keeper tipped round the post.

Hayao Kawabe - Grasshoppers Zurich (Swiss Super League)

Played 80 minutes in a 2-1 loss at Servette. Dadashov (pen) got their goal.

Joe Young - AFC Telford, National League North

Played in a 3-0 home defeat to Fylde. He’s getting plenty of practice with Telford’s leaky defence.

On as sub: Corbeanu came on for the last 20-odd minutes of Bielefield’s 2-1 win at Rostock. Cundle came on for the last hour of a 3-0 defeat at Bramall Lane. Fabio Silva came on for the last 20 minutes and got PSV’s 5th in a 6-0 win against bottom club Groningen.

Unused subs: Campbell, Smith, Jordao, Sang-Bin
Not in squad: Bolla
No game or friendly: Mosquera, Guedes
