Yeah, it's just easy shorthand. Not saying "nothing before this date counts" (especially on a personal level as I started watching in 1988) but it just easily splits eras - there's no doubting football WAS different in the 70s/80s. Like you might now talk about "best players of the 21st century", doesn't mean you think Gary Lineker was no good.

Could argue it the other way, if we survive (despite our owners playing chicken with our status for the third year in a row) then it's perfectly feasible you can have a sharp enough upturn if you make the right decisions and fund it properly. Big if of course.
