Sounds like Southampton fans already want Nathan Jones out, they're playing hoofball with Che Adams up front it's bizarre. How soon does he get sacked?

1 win and 4 defeats so far I think, worse than under Ralf

Not sure what their owners were expecting when they signed him. Madness.

What’s his claim to fame? Getting Luton into League One?

He’s good for doing shit bananarama jokes. That’s it literally. Football wise he makes Lage look like a tactical leviathan

He's better than Lage who I wouldn't have in charge of a kids team. This is no kind of endorsement.

I’m not convinced he is better than Lage. I think they are both appalling

Sell out for Ronaldo's first game in Saudi tonight.

Shame he can't play as he has 2 game suspension for smashing the phone out of the young Everton fan's hand last season

From League two to the championship play offs tbf. Did really badly at Stoke in between though
He jumped ship in League One for Stoke and then came back with them in the Championship. Can't credit him for that promotion unless we also accept Dean Saunders' claim he got Doncaster promoted.

Shame he's not playing as I'd have been all over that. Oh hang on, back in the real world Chelsea vs Man City is on

Meh, fair enough. He did a lot of the hard work though for the two/three years before that to get them to that stage. Then also kept them up when he returned in the championship when they looked absolutely doomed.

Anyway, he does come across a massive weirdo

He did really good work to keep Luton up to be fair but he clearly has a ceiling and his style of play isn't going to get much success outside of the Lutons and Millwalls of the world.

Like Kenny said I'd be shocked if he didn't return to Luton at some point. Luton were weirdly praising Southampton for the manner in which they approached and were very amicable about him leaving - fairly sure they didn't want to burn bridges as they too expect him to be back when this doesn't work out!

I'd be slow to knock Jones , he has only has what , 5 games or something ,and it's not as if he has done any worse than the previous Manager .
On his previous record - he did an excellent job for Luton - took them on when they were going nowhere in League 2 and got them promoted the following season . Did all the hard work to get them to top spot in League 1 before leaving . Mick Harford then took them on for the remainder of that season , a legend at that club , and saw the promotion through .
However , most impressive of all , he came back to them in the COVID season . They fired the other Jones - Graham after the season was put on hold during the height of COVID , with Luton rock bottom of the Championship and well adrift of 4th from bottom . They re appointed Nathan Jones and he proceeded to pull them off the bottom of the table and up to safety when the season resumed .
It wouldn't have been easy for him to come back and get everyone working to save their status , but he managed it . It was a fair achievement .
His time at Stoke was poor , but there are lots of Managers with a poor period at some club or other and it doesn't colour them .

The biggest surprise with Southampton appointing him was that it is unusual for a PL club to appoint a Championship Manager who has never worked in the PL , and hasn't yet achieved promotion to the PL .

It might well be a step too far for Jones , given the pressure that comes with a PL job - not unlike Potter heading to Chelsea as they now fall down the table .
However - lets be fair , Jones was approached to take the job , he has little to lose given his time at Luton and knows that he will easily pick up another job if it doesn't work out .
Finally - it's not over till it's over . 20 games left to play - it remains very hard to nominate the 3 clubs that will get relegated and be certain of it .

I think if he was our manager and coming out with the things he has been, we would be gunning for him. Not even talking about style of play here..

So far at Southampton he is doing exactly what he did at Stoke. Calling players out for not understanding his methods (his methods are lump it forward). He might turn it around but everything at that club is flat. Reading the stuff from last night, the crowd have given up and the players look lost and have no motivation.

Seems strange if they've gone full route one.

I remember looking at a load of Luton highlights during his first spell there after reading an article about him and they looked like they played decent stuff then. Nothing sensational but they were moving the ball around quickly and scoring quite a few goals, perhaps something akin to Holloway's Blackpool.

Obviously then had a properly shit spell at Stoke, didn't see anything of the football he tried to get them playing, then went back to do well again at Luton, but again didn't see anything of how he had them playing then.

They want any chance of staying up he needs to go. So naturally I hope he stays.

It'll be an interesting watch for sure .

Have not heard about the comments you refer to .

This was my impression of him aswell, thought he played decent stuff with Luton..
