Live Match Discussion 2017/18

Hegazi looks hilariously shit for Albion.

You can see why a lot of Albion fans have had enough and their attendances are down. Pragmatic football is fine as a means to an end to get you or keep you up, but as an established PL in their 8th? consecutive season it's awful.

They’re in no danger of going down but it’s painful to watch.

It's dull, dreary football by numbers. No flair or excitement whatsoever.

He's outdone Southgate with this midfield. Literally no creativity.

This is shit and surely not what football is about. Yes it's not nice to lose but you may as well lose than watch this every week to finish mid table. Imagine going to mighty Leicester and shutting up shop. When we get promoted i hope we smash it by playing the style of football we're playing now.

Not sure how much Leicester intend to spend on strikers who are completely incapable of playing with Vardy. Poor move from Kelechi.

Dawson unusually using his elbow...

I’d drop Livermore over Barry.

The way Albion turned attack into suicidal defence within five seconds of kicking off was quite impressive.

What a miss from Mahrez. Exceptional.

Question must surely be asked about what West Brom and their fans want. They will finish about 8th-14th playing this way, and that will be it. They won't be breaking into the top 7 and they won't get relegated, so what do they want? Watch this crap year in, year out and finish in roughly the same place going nowhere? As Tony said above, as a means to an end for a year or two when promoted it's understandable, but now after 8 years the club must be looking at it and going - "Let's make a real push to break into the top 6 or 7 this year" or "let's see some entertaining football"

For all the critics Stoke have had since coming up, since Pulis has gone they are actually a lot better on the eye now. They play some good stuff at times, whilst also not looking in danger of going down. The Albion fans must turn up every August going, well we will finish mid table on about 50 points, but at least the football will be crap.

Or "The football will be crap, but at least we will finish mid-table on about 50 points".

Decent free kick but what was the keeper doing?
Albion have done next to nothing and lead.
I’d give Shakespeare about another 5 games.

Evans looks head and shoulders the best footballer in that Albion side, seems a lot better on the ball now than when he was younger.

There must come a point though where finishing mid-table on 50 points, watching garbage football, isn't enough - and it seems with their attendances going down they've hit that point.

Surely after 8 years they should be looking at either, the garbage football is here but we are pushing further up the league, or we have reached the heights we can so let's try maybe entertaining our fans a bit.

I wonder if Leicester regret not cashing in on mahrez and vardy

I remember our first PL season under Mick, we spent the second half of the campaign playing Henry and Mancienne in CM, Foley as more or less a second right back (Protip: don't pick an absolute cretin as the actual RB, then you don't need to do that), once we beat West Ham and it was apparent we only needed a handful of points to secure safety we actively played for 0-0s. And for the time, great. Job done. But that wasn't sustainable after ONE year. You know that you're going to get a version of that every year under Pulis.

You wonder what the point is with him beyond initially establishing a team (as he did with Stoke) or saving a team mid-season (as he did with Palace and Albion). You can accept that your side isn't going to win the league barring a miracle but the benefit for fans of mid-table sides is seeing the best possible players at their club and enjoying them while they're there, building year on year if you can. You'll never get that with Pulis because anyone with any flair is routinely dumped on the sidelines in favour of mutant dross.

As for Shakespeare, he's just shit. Not a manager at all. Should never have got the gig permanently.

I agree with everything you say, but it takes a brave chairman to risk stability for entertainment. It's boring, awful to watch but you'll be in the premier league. It's really hard to do anything different once you're in that position
