Live Match Discussion 2017/18

Pulis , for me is a Manager you get in when it's going tits up

He gets you out of that for that season then you should really say thank you, give him a bonus and a goodbye as he isn't going to do much better for you at any point in the future

Adrain Durham was pitching him for the Wales job last week on TalkSport. I dread to think what Pulis would do with Bale

Pragmatic football is ok when the results are coming in but Albion haven’t won in 6 now which is why the fans are starting to revolt. There start has hardly been a tough one either. Bournemouth, Burnley, Stoke, Brighton, West Ham, Arsenal, Watford and Leicester.

I'm not saying I agree but look at Everton, they're trying to change things up and are seriously struggling

I think Keoman's first season was masked by Lukaku being great. I just don't think he's very good. Pulls is what he is but as Albion chairman what do you do?

It could of course go either way, it's a gamble. They're hamstrung as a club by ownership - Peace just wanted them ticking over in the PL so the value of his asset remained high (and he could take his salary/dividends), the new guy doesn't seem to be a great deal different. Whereas Coates was sufficiently ambitious at Stoke and indications are that Fosun will be the same here to say "no, this just isn't good enough. Thanks and goodbye". The Pornodwarves are fucking idiots but all the same, they could see they weren't going to ever maintain 60k attendances with Allardyce's football so off he went.

I don't think Quique Sanchez Flores would have relegated Watford last season (in fact he'd probably have been better than Mazzarri) but they thought he'd outlived his use and off he pops. They now have one of the top young managers in Europe and they're 4th.

I guess it's all about risk. Coates is an odd one, arguably Stoke are one of the richest clubs in the league but they invest like Mike Ashley. There's many a pissed off clayhead but Hughes is passable enough and his results are much the same as Pulis, just easier on the eye.

They could invest serious money but they don't.

I'd also say Albion have been a very, very lucky club in the last decade or so. They dropped lucky that Hodgson became available just when RDM's position was becoming very insecure. A couple of months either way and they probably go down that season. Then what club manages to appoint Pepe Mel AND Alan Irvine in direct succession and not pay for it with relegation?! Lowest points total to win this league in living memory under Mowbray. Lowest points total to ever stay up in the PL under Robson.

I don't think they'll go down under Pulis this season, they always put some form of a run together and there's enough crap in the league. It's 2 wins in 17 now though going back to April, one away win in the whole of 2017. As with all managers who play in a pragmatic way, once the results drop off then the football will always come under scrutiny, because you're getting nothing out of it.

We're all loving watching Wolves at the moment but it's not just because we're winning - it's because of how we're playing. That's why there's a buzz around the place. If we were grubbing out 1-0s under Karanka that wouldn't exist.

Bigger implications to your club if numbers are falling, but as direct income, ticket sales aren't that much of the business are they? I.E I think Albion will play the long game and finish mid-table with Pulis, the end. Go if you want ha.

There are knock-on effects beyond that. Commercial income will drop if no-one wants to watch you. Decent players won't want to sign for you if they know the team plays ultra-defensive dirge where attacking players constantly get marginalised or turned into Kevin Doyle-a-likes running the channels. Lose supporters and it takes a hell of a long time for them to come back - then there's the generational issue that you find at most clubs currently (including Wolves) whereby there is a seriously ageing fanbase and little there to replace it; what incentive is there for younger supporters to pay good money to watch the kind of crap that Albion deliberately serve up? Eventually when the time does come that your arsehole of a manager finally leaves...what's he leaving behind? A squad devoid of quality, only able to play in a stodgy manner which will need ripping up and starting again (at high cost).

I don't think Pulis is a guarantee of anything other than a shite spectacle. They shouldn't go down, but they could. They face Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd at home this side of Christmas, not likely to get much there and if you aren't winning away...

They've barely won away for the last few seasons

16-17 - 3 wins
15-16 - 4 wins
14-15 - 4 wins
13-14 - 3 wins

Home wins would be the worry, failed to beat Stoke, West Ham and Watford at home this season in their 4 home games. Also only kept 1 clean sheet in last 6 league games (0-0 at home to West Ham) If the clean sheets aren't coming and they aren't going to score a hatful, could be in some trouble.

In regards to the style of play, another that hypothetically could affect them down the road could be TV income. The "big 6" and the Premier League are looking like they want to push through with plans of dividing TV income based on appearances on the box and what viewing figures you pull in. If this comes through, they aren't going to be getting as much of that revenue stream if they keep churning out performances on the box like they did last night and against Stoke earlier in the season.

Their form at the back end of last season was shite too (From March onwards W1 D2 L9). I think if you combine that and their start to this season, and put it over 38 games then they could be in trouble.

With regards to the TV revenue I think it refers to a split of the future overseas Premier League rights. I doubt if they will be worse off but the difference between them and the top six will become greater.

Since 1 April they're P17 W2 D6 L9. Way less than a point a game.

Love me some West Brom-bashing facts

In those 17 games, they have only scored more than 1 goal in a game twice, and on both occasions they drew. They failed to score in 8 of those games. They also only kept 3 clean sheets.

After 17 games of 2010/11 we were W4 D3 L10 and in 19th place. Exact same record in 2011/12 and 16th. Mick was under a lot of pressure at that point in both seasons and we were playing better football then than Albion are now, picking up more points, at way less expense and without being a semi-established PL team.

Maybe we just have higher standards...

Spurs 1-0 up in the Bernabeu

Aurier is so rash at times.

I think with west brim they're unlikely to get into trouble but if they do I'm not sure they can get out of it. It's easy for draws to become odd goal defeats and if you don't have players to chase a game it gets very tricky
