It does change hands quite often; Tory through the 70s and 80s then Gyles Brandreth (!) won it for them in 1992, Labour in 1997, 2001 and 2005, Tory in 2010, Labour from 2015 onwards. If they put up a reasonable candidate I would expect them to hold on.

The levelling up secretary Simon Clarke has become the second Cabinet minister to unequivocally back Boris Johnson, the Telegraph reports.
Clarke said Johnson would lead “a broad-based, inclusive Government drawing on talent from right across the Conservative Party, driven by a disciplined Downing Street”.

He was the one saying that the Mini Budget was great a few weeks back, criticised the u-turn on it and stated that we were living in a fools paradise in terms of public spending. How did we end up with such arseholes in prominent positions and supposedly running the country. Disciplined Downing Street with Johnson at the helm?

He's on 60, with 40% of the Party declared, although the bigger names are silent. He'd need a few of those to be credible as he couldn't form a cabinet out of Jenkyns, JRM, Mad Nads, Chode, Bone and Fabricant.

The logic was that 2 people would get 100 supporters and the one who finished second in the PLP would stand aside and it wouldn't go to the geriatric racists. If that's Johnson there's no way that'd happen.
