Lettuce Liz then Tetchy Rish! and the battle to replace him

If there was a unity candidate Truss would be gone by now. The right wing won’t accept one so the whole party and thus the country is at an impasse. The 1922 Committee must be trying to find a way to ensure the next leader is elected by MPs not the lunatic membership to ensure speed and remove the risk of another disaster. My guess is they’ll change the number of nominations required to stand so only one candidate can reach the threshold and Sunak will be PM by November.

Obviously what they should do is say their Government has failed and call a GE.

It's bad enough we get a PM selected by a few thousand people who then destroys everything and then we get a PM chosen by a couple of hundred people who have already binned 2 PM's on our behalf
At the moment the majority of their MPs are hoping to rebuild sufficiently to prevent electoral wipeout. If there was a GE now they’d be massacred.

So the Fracking vote was a farce and a half last night

Originally told it was a 3 line whip vote
Then just before it, their MP's were told "nah, just some bantz, go with your hearts or whatever is in the space where you had one"
Chief and Deputy Whip lose their shit and resign
They then un-resign
Turns out they did so because the PM u-turned on the previous u-turn and reinstalled the 3 line whip to get them to stay.

So today the following are in the shit (which includes 2 former PM's and....the Chief Whip)

FfdDT3qXoAUKJhP

Would have been more but being shouted at by the ghost of a Victorian butler and having the Deputy PM physically drag people into the lobby was too much for some

Presumably Liz has to do a Glenn Tampon and reprimand/sack herself?

Farcical. Turkeys don’t generally vote for Christmas but is there a chance that they are so pissed off they vote for a GE?

Apparently those voted against or abstaining have to have a jolly good reason. Presume hers will be she couldn't find the room

I want to see the Chief Whip asking the Chief Whip what her game was and why she should remain part of the Conservative Government

Probably a daft question, but does Charlie have any powers as king to call a GE or to dissolve a government or something?

IDS could whip a chunk of those forty to vote en bloc against the government in a full on VONC. Would get mighty close to being the required numbers to bring the government down.

So I imagine the discipline from Truss and Co will have to be very gentle indeed.

Technically, in as much as he could also close the BBC today if he wanted to.

Not off his own bat in theory. Some royal called Charles tried it once and ended up about 9 inches shorter.

I can't ever see a situation where enough Tories put the good of the country over their own personal/political aspirations.

They may say they're unhappy with things (y'know - things which are entirely their own fault in the first place), but when it comes to the crunch, there's no way they'd willingly oust themselves from power.

I've no idea what further chaos there is to come, but I'd be amazed if we're anywhere near a GE.

Big lack of moral compass in today`s politicians.

I agree but they might think it’s better to hand the current mess over to Labour in the hope of getting back in in 2027 rather than two years later. So many things from the Tories in the past year have amazed me practically nothing would surprise me.

Not much would surprise me either, but a VONC in truss from her own party to force an election would be the epitome of a surprise!

It's the only reasonable way out of this mess, and I'm sure that the majority of Tories themselves would agree with that, but I can't see them going for it. The ONLY thing left to them that matters is staying in power - they're not going to give that up lightly.

They've been seemingly happy to excuse the absolute pile of cuntitude from their own party over the last 12 years - I can't see them suddenly developing a modicum of morality.

Nothing to do with morality. Equivalent of taking your star players off when losing 5-0 and down to 10 men to save them for the next game. Tories will only ever do what’s best for them and some may take a longer perspective on the situation. Hand Labour strikes and inflation and hope the public have short memories.

They can then stand on the sidelines and shout how labour is making a mess of the economy, but if you’d voted for us we could have sorted it out

In an entirely predictable move, Nadine Dorries says the removal of Liz Truss can only happen if it results in the immediate reinstatement of Boris Johnson as he actually has a mandate.

Never saw that coming. Not at all.
